This document defines and discusses narrative and historical fiction. It explains that a narrative is a story presented in a constructed format that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events. Historical fiction tells stories set in the past, using real historical settings, time periods and people, but with fictional main characters. Examples are given of notable works of historical fiction literature such as "I, Claudius" by Robert Graves and films such as Cleopatra and Titanic that portray fictional stories set during historical events and time periods.
