Background of study
• The global refugee crisis is becoming increasingly worrying for
affected countries
• Refugees have long been a recurring issue but it has worsened
recently with events like the Syrian Civil War and the rejection of
Rohingyas by Myanmar
• There are over 22 million refugees in the world right now and
counting
• This study aims to cover the overview of the refugee crisis, its social
and economical effects as well as public reactions and opinions
Problem statement
• The refugee crisis is a complex issue with complicated details
• It is a topic that is easily misunderstood
• The problem lies in public opinion and comments on the crisis which
is driven by emotions rather than real, logical facts
• Emotions are fine, but this causes a lot of unnecessary conflict and
false arguments when we talk about the crisis
• There has to be a balance between emotions and logic in discussions
Research Objective
• To analyse the background and scale of the refugee crisis
• To identify the causes and effects of the crisis
• To understand the reaction of countries and public opinion on the
crisis
Research Questions
• What is the background and scale of the refugee crisis?
• What are the causes and effects of the crisis?
• What are the reactions of countries and public opinions on the crisis?
Significance
• This study will help the public to understand the background and
seriousness of the event
• People will be able to think more logically and form rational thoughts
about the crisis
Limitations
• The refugee crisis is hard to understand which makes it impossible to
fit everything in one study
• The study is also limited by sensitive topics such as politics and
religion
• Information is extracted solely from third-party sources as the
authors have never experienced the crisis themselves
Methodology
• Data was compiled only from reputable sources with a history of
verified news and low bias levels (e.g BBC, Bloomberg)
• Data is then fact-checked to ensure that it is authentic. Authors of the
sources are also checked to ensure that they have a credible writing
history
• Biased articles or content with negative agendas are not considered
• Information that can contribute to the goals of this study are then
selected carefully
Literature Review
Causes of the crisis
• Crisis is mainly caused by war or instability (political, religious, etc.)
• Countries’ policies may also play a role in causing the crisis
Effects of the crisis
• The crisis causes negative effects socially and economically e.g
increased crime rates and worries among residents
• May also contribute positively e.g filling a labor gap
Reactions to the crisis
• Countries directly affected by the crisis mostly respond negatively to
it while non-affected countries show support for refugees
