okay, Mrs.Wright, apparently when i send powerpoints through email with audio in them, the audi wont work because its not "embedded" but instead linked to the file that contain the muisc. Okay forget that, i hope this really works. This is like my 7th alternative. Don't mind the grmmar errors in this description.

Tjaden and Others Take Revenge
● Himmelstoss makes Tjaden sleep on a bunk with another
bed wetter which makes him very angry. Himmelstoss does a
lot of other horrible things to the rest of the recruits, he is
very harsh with them. This make Tjaden mad so he and
some of his comrades decide to take revenge. They sneak
up on him at night, cover his eyes so he can not see that
who is doing it, and beat him. He never figures out who it
was so he can not punish them.
● I chose “The Dark Knight Rises (Main Theme)” by Hans
Zimmer. I chose this song because it builds anticipation and
helps portray the beating that is going on in this scene. It
gives the scene a darker feel. It has a lot of moments where
it goes from quiet to loud which makes things seem much
more intense.

Paul Goes Home
Paul receives a letter saying that his mother has
become very ill. Paul is upset and decides to leave
the front for a while to visit his mother.
The song I chose is “I’m coming home” by Skylar
Grey.

Death of Gérard Duval
“Fallen” by Henry Jackman (1:12-1:41)
“‘But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me...now I see your
wife and your face and our fellowship... Why do they never tell us that you
are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and
that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same
agony...how could you be my enemy? If we threw away these rifles and this
uniform you could be my brother just like Kat and Albert’,”(Remarque 223).
●When I thought of this scene, I thought of Paul just sitting in the trench there looking at the
french man’s family photo and thinking to himself “Wow, he is no different than I”.
●Sympathy, a bond shared by the soldiers for their pains of the war, enemy was no longer
the enemy but instead a human with a family back at home just like Paul.
●This song gives the listeners a sad mood and that is the perfect mood for this scene for Paul
takes care of the guy until he dies and promises him that he’ll send a letter to his family. It’s
depressing and sad that although Paul cares for the dude, in the end Paul must protect
himself and go back to being a German Soldier despite his feelings.
●This snippet of the music goes from aggressive to slow and sad, in a soothe transition.
The low and sad music combined with the staccato(separate) notes gives the listeners a
sad, heart-touching vibe. This perfectly also describes the scene where Paul cares for the
dude till his death, although he knows that Gerard has a family at home. I chose this
song, because persoanlly, it made me feel sad and that’s how I exactly felt when I read
this scene.

DINNER
SURPRISE!
● Paul, Tjaden, Müller, Kropp, Detering, and Kat take shelter in a dugout for the night and fill it
with beds and blankets. They find vegetables and capture two suckling pigs to prepare a big
meal for themselves in a kitchen that was near the dugout. Paul is making potato cakes while
the other guys are cooking the pigs. The enemy sees the smoke and what was supposed to be
a big feast turned into an attack. While bombs and shells are going off Paul is still making the
pancakes and manages to save all of them as he gets to safety.
● I chose “Guns, Fighting and War” by Nick Mackay. I chose this song because it has war sounds
such as guns and bombs going off. It provides the “attack scene” with background music that
further emphasizes the bombardment. The sounds of guns shooting gave it an intense and
dramatic theme.

Billy Boyd - The Edge of Night
- This song represents chapters 11 and 12,
from the disappearance of Detering to Paul's
own death.
- There is an almost tangible feeling of
tiredness, pain and daze in the song's buildup,
all releasing and resolving suddenly at the last
line of the vocals. That last line evokes
imagery of the exact instant when Paul dies,
his body slumping over.
