1. English 4000 Summary
Led by Dr. Justin Noetzel, the English 4000 course at Saint Louis University known as
Business and Professional Writing is exactly what you would expect out of the title of the course
and then some. Within this course, we were not only trained to learn and know how to produce
various documents found in the corporate and professional worlds, we were done so in a real-life
context through the use of a fictional company known as re:BrandU.
This company was designed as a rebranding firm in which the classroom functioned as
the company while we were taught to create documents that applied to the job market, our future
careers, and the class as a whole, primarily through our fictional rebranding process of a local
security business known as Will Electronics. By selecting a primary business that our writings
revolved around, the class was able to have a real life reference as to what our work can affect
and influence as we created several managerial documents, press releases, proposals, and media
kits all to aid in the renewal of this small, family owned business.
2. Will Electronics Rebranding Proposal
Since it began in 1955, Will Electronics has been able to grow from a simple television repair
shop into the large, Saint Louis based security integrator that it is today. However, since its
beginning over fifty years ago, Will Electronics is not the only thing that has changed, as its
offered services and target audience have shifted as well and, unfortunately, the logo and the
name of the company no longer reflect the company’s current services and products. By
following this simple rebranding proposal of altering the current name and logo, Will Electronics
will be able to effectively showcase their offerings at a quick glance while staying true to their
core values and familial outlook on business that all have come to know from them over the
years.
Assessment
With the current marketing strategies of Will Electronics, it is effectively passing itself off as an
honest-run and family focused electronics company with an emphasis on its security products
and services. The current brand of Will Electronics allows the company to present itself as an
effective company with its priorities set in all the right values to encourage a healthy relationship
between its clients and contractors; unfortunately, with this same brand, the company does not
allow itself to be directly accessed by its target audience, as it is currently marketed as an
electronics company that specializes in security as opposed to solely identifying as a security
company.
Will Electronics’ target audience has obviously shifted since its creation from people with
broken televisions to people and larger companies with a need for security products and
integration and in today’s world, security is not what customers think of when they hear the term
“technology” and for that reason, Will Electronics is not currently branded in a way that is aimed
at their target audience. With their current website layout, Will Electronics displays solely
information, products, solutions, and references based on their offerings and experiences with
their “advanced security solutions” which is something that is not reflected or even mentioned by
their current logo and name. While the “Electronics” portion of their name does encompass their
security offerings, the phrase is so broad for a company that deals only with security.
Will Electronics has been able to demonstrate their success through a rebranding before, after
changing their name from Carl Will TV. Carl Will TV became Will Electronics after nearly forty
years of already being in business, making another rebranding in its current state seem like a
doable change that would allow for a better focus on the company’s true target audience.
3. Proposal
Problem: The current name and logo of Will Electronics does not accurately reflect their
services and offerings or their targeted audience.
Proposed Solution: Will Electronics will change its name to Will Security to better reflect its
offerings as a company as well as alter their logo to better do the same.
Process: To kick start the rebranding process, an announcement should be placed conspicuously
on the homepage of the current Will Electronics website to inform current and prospective
clients of the purely aesthetic change to the company roughly two months before the change
takes place to allow enough time for it to be seen and prepared for. Along with this notification,
each current client should be sent a memo in email form to be informed of the incoming change
in case they are unable to get around to viewing the announcement on the website to avoid any
unnecessary confusion.
Once these steps and precautions are made, the transition from Will Electronics to Will Security
may be made to accurately depict the company’s offered services and to attract more clients
looking for these services.
The logo change will be made at the same time as the name change, but will need no prior
announcement as it will make no difference to clients.
Due to the name change to Will Security, the logo will be changed to display this newfound
focus on security, as well by being changed to a locked red padlock with a simple block “W” in
the center. By keeping the same color scheme and simplicity in the new logo, the company will
be able to still be recognized for its small business-like mentality and still be connected to its
history.
After these changes, the company will continue to function normally.
Why it’s necessary: In today’s market, customers aim for simple searching and buying
experiences, meaning that they don’t want to find the product they need; they want it to find
them. Keeping this customer mentality in mind, a simple Google search for “Saint Louis
electronics” doesn’t even result in Will Electronics on the front page.
Why is this? Because their current target audience is not meant for people only looking for
“electronics” as nearly everything they offer at this point in their business is security oriented,
meaning that their target audience can’t find them with even the most simple internet searches.
By choosing to rebrand, Will Electronics is making themselves a more accurately depicted
company, which allows them to come off as an honest business that still manages to maintain its
small business roots but in a bigger business manifestation.

Dear Mr. Cary:
My name is Tyler Myers and I work in the Public Relations division of re:BrandU, a rebranding
agency that has been contracted by Will Electronics, your current supplier and consultant for all
your security needs. Over the course of the next few months, changes will be taking place at Will
Electronics and I am writing to inform you of the positive changes that this will breathe into your
business.
Our company has many positive improvements planned for the new branding of Will
Electronics, most of which will be revealed to the public in due time, however; we will be
planning to change the format of their current website which may change your experiences in
dealing with their company. The changes currently planned for the website include a digital
restructuring that will do away with any non-security related material (as that has become the
sole focus of their company’s business) in order to streamline your experience with the Will
Electronics website. I’d like to reiterate that this is the only change in the rebranding process that
will have any effect on any business you may have with Will Electronics; aside from a few
aesthetic changes being made to the company’s brand, it will continue to be the same
professional and loyal company it has proven to be throughout the years.
Sincerely yours,
Tyler Myers

re:BrandU takes on Will Electronics as a new rebranding project
SAINT LOUIS- Local rebranding agency re:BrandU has been hired on by securities
provider and consultant, Will Electronics. Will Electronics has been in business for over fifty
years and has now decided to adapt its brand to the times as its services have adapted over the
years of the company’s operation.
As the company has shifted and adapted over the years, its primary focus has changed
from an all-encompassing electronics provider to having a sole emphasis on its security
endeavors and, therefore, has turned to re:BrandU for assistance on rebranding the company to
better display this new business mentality. Over the next few months, Will Electronics will begin
to operate under the new name of Will Securities and include several aesthetic changes,
including a new logo as well as a restructuring to display its focus on security towards current
and prospective clients. The company will continue to function as is, but will be more
recognizable for their specific services of security provisions and consultations.

9. re:BrandU

Re:BrandU is a company hired by businesses wishing to rebrand themselves through means of
logo, name, style, and/or design changes at the discretion of the company and the employees
delegating the rebranding process. At re:BrandU, we house several different departments that are
utilized during a company’s rebrand, allowing us to be flexible enough to take on any project and
be able to hit every possible detail to effectively change a company’s aesthetic identity. For the
unique process of rebranding Will Electronics to Will Securities, we assigned a very gifted team
to the process, each with their own specialties and responsibilities.
Catherine Honigfort: Catherine’s role during the Will Securities rebrand was primarily design
and format. Being in charge of the website redesign, Catherine created several potential pages of
a newly renovated website for the new Will Securities. Included in this is an interactive company
timeline, information on the company’s biggest clients and projects, as well as created a newer
and sleeker update of the company logo all on par with the company’s new black and red color
scheme. Catherine’s design skills were also utilized to create potential templates for the media
kit’s fact sheet as well as creating the company’s backgrounder.
Ben Kennedy: Ben had his influence in two departments as he participated in both research and
design for the Will Securities media kit as he did his part in creating potential templates for the
fact sheet alongside Catherine as well as create a billboard to be used for advertisement. Also, for
the physical component of the media kit, Ben designed and created the birth certificate
backgrounder along with the currency styled facts.
Matthew Krzmarzick: Matthew’s contribution to the media kit for Will Securities was mainly
writing and advertising. To complete the media kit fully, Matthew wrote the press release for the
media, as well as scripted a radio ad and did all necessary research for the ad, which included
potential cost as well as targeted radio stations to play the advertisement on with a determined
frequency in mind as to how often to play it.
Tyler Myers: Tyler’s additions to the media kit lie within the writing department of the media kit
project. Tasked with identity sheet, client letter, and certain advertising components, Tyler
articulated specific points of the media kit and its components to the client, Will Securities, in the
client letter, discussed the delegations of the project in the identity sheet, as well as created the
mock-ups for convention swag items, and scripted a short tv spot for television advertising.
