This document provides an overview of Zambia's energy sector and sustainability outlook. It notes that currently 75% of Zambians lack access to electricity and energy consumption relies heavily on biomass. To address power deficits caused by decreasing rainfall, Zambia is employing governance strategies like REFIT to encourage private renewable development. Zambia has significant potential for solar, wind, biofuels and geothermal energy but will need to promote these sources faster and track implementation of renewable funds to make meaningful progress toward its energy sustainability goals.
