The document summarizes Nissan North America's (NNA) energy management efforts and plans for the future. It discusses NNA's goals of reducing energy costs and becoming more energy efficient. It provides data showing that from 2011 to 2012, while vehicle production increased by 14.9%, total energy use only increased by 6% and energy intensity decreased by 8.3%. It also outlines recent energy efficiency projects NNA has undertaken at its manufacturing plants in Smyrna, TN and Canton, MS, such as installing more efficient lighting and equipment. Finally, it discusses NNA's plans to continue expanding energy efficiency certifications, implementing additional energy reduction projects, and engaging employees in conservation efforts going forward.

Turning Climate Crisis into Action. What should we be doing, what are we doing. A short appraisal of opportunities, unintended barriers and key drivers needed if we are to make meaningful progress in decarbonising our cities.
In short we have to give every building in the city an opportunity and desire to move forward from burning gas. This is the biggest contributor to climate change, the biggest density of activity and the single most pressing area no yet in enough focus.
Butler Manufacturing optimized its 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility by installing the SunLight Strip® daylighting system, a lighting retrofit aimed at maximizing energy savings while improving interior lighting.
The purpose of this AECOM report is to describe co-location of solar and wind generation infrastructure. It is an investigation report providing a deeper appreciation of the business case considerations and co-location potential in Australia and to provide useful information to developers who are considering co-location developments.
The opportunity to retrofit existing wind farms with solar farms has significant potential not only in Australia but globally. With over 370 GW of large scale wind farms globally and 4 GW installed in Australia there are numerous locations where the two renewable resources are highly complementary.
As the renewable industry matures, becoming less dependent on subsidies and cost reductions plateau, the industry must contemplate innovative ways of improving its competitiveness.
This study highlights that co-location of wind and solar can:
Deliver major savings in Capex and Opex
The best locations for brownfield (retrofit) and greenfield co-location
Importance of network access to future co-location opportunties

At the same time as the world balances on the precipice of climate change, Qld is rapidly increasing it's addiction to coal. Qld coal already contributes 30% of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions - and the Bligh government is celebrating the forecast tripling of Qld coal production by 2030. Now a new coal port is proposed for pristine Shoalwater Bay in Central Qld.
Can we allow business-as-usual when it threatens the planet? Can coal ever be "clean"? How can we build an alternative, sustainable future?

Commercial energy storage (battery) project opportunities v.2.2Michael Pon
There are small commercial energy storage opportunities in time-shifting energy that will be available because of the Tesla PowerPack and other fixed energy storage systems. This PG&E tariff analysis should be of interest to any renewable energy project developer or building/facilities energy management system project developer. The ideas discussed could apply nationwide in many electric utility service areas. These opportunities are economically accessible to commercial enterprises even without government incentives or combination with solar or wind generation.
Unlocking the Innovation Hidden within Today’s Variable-Speed DrivesEMEX
It is more than 40 years since the technology of variable-speed drives (VSDs) entered the market. Yet despite electric motors accounting for some 65 percent of industrial energy consumption, only 5 percent of installed motors are speed controlled. While not all motors are suitable for speed control, there is still a large proportion that could be. Yet when asked what is the most effective way to reduce energy, UK business responded with “change energy supplier”. Without doubt the most effective way to get real energy savings is to install energy efficient motors and VSDs. In this presentation John Guthrie looks at the impact of VSDs on a diverse range of sectors, offering real examples from hospitals and swimming pools to data centres and car parks.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
