The document describes Jesus being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness where he fasted for 40 days and was tempted by the devil. The devil tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread when he was hungry, bow down and worship the devil in exchange for authority over the world's kingdoms, and test God by throwing himself from the temple. Each time, Jesus responded by quoting scripture. After enduring every temptation, the devil left Jesus until a more opportune time. The document then states that Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit and his fame spread throughout the surrounding region as he taught in the synagogues.
The document provides an overview of the book of James, including:
- James was Jesus' brother who wrote the book to persecuted Jewish Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire.
- It is unique as the first New Testament book written and its focus on personal application of faith.
- The central message is that faith in God should result in behavior that harmonizes with God's will, and that the life of faith is one of both peril and power over worldly influences.
The document contains lyrics from the song "The Impossible Dream" that list aspirations such as dreaming impossible dreams, fighting unbeatable foes, and bearing unbearable sorrow. The document also includes Bible verses about God being able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think, and that with God all things are possible. It discusses pursuing dreams and never giving up hope even when facing difficulties or exhaustion.
Jesus developed a close walk with God through daily spiritual disciplines of rising early to pray, seeking God before the distractions of the day, and intentionally removing himself from others to pray alone. These disciplines required determination to prioritize time with God each morning, leaving behind comfort and distractions, and developing habits of prayer and devotion.
This document discusses the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead in John 11. It notes that Martha had faith in Jesus as the Great Physician and in the power of God to answer prayer. Jesus loved Lazarus, Martha, and Mary, and wanted to glorify the Father through this miracle. Jesus had the power to raise the dead and extends the greatest promise of everlasting life to those who have faith in Him. The document encourages having faith and love for God like Martha and Jesus did.
David Brainerd was a missionary to Native American tribes in the 18th century who suffered from poor health, depression, loneliness and hardship but was used powerfully by God. Though weak, God was strong in him. Though he made mistakes, God directed his steps and used him to advance His kingdom. Brainerd's life shows that God delights in using weak instruments and that His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.
This document provides an introduction and overview of topics to be discussed at the Grace & Peace Gathering in 2007. The topics include:
1. The light of every man and whether Christ was the hope of glory for all from birth.
2. Whether righteousness is imputed or accepted and the will of God.
3. The role of belief in redemption and whose belief is most important.
4. What it means that the Word became flesh and the implications for scripture.

The document discusses principles for living a supernatural life with faith in God and miracles. Some key points include: the role of prophets is to give direction from God; dealing with the devil requires God's power; God prepares and equips believers for the battles ordained for them; and miracles are easier than the natural when obeying God's word. Believers are called to step into the supernatural realm of reality defined by God.
This document discusses how Easter is about the empty tomb of Jesus and his post-resurrection appearances according to scripture. It argues that emptiness can be a positive thing that allows for preparation, grieving, healing, assessment, risk-taking, surrender, and hope. Each stage of Jesus' story involved emptying himself, and emptiness can motivate change and lead to new life through yielding and being filled.
This document discusses fear and its causes. It explores several reasons why people experience fear, including not fully trusting God, being more concerned with what others think than God, having unaddressed mental or emotional issues, wanting to feel in control, and failing to take thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. The document encourages addressing fear by renewing the mind through focusing on who we are in Christ and memorizing scripture about overcoming fear.
This document provides background information and discussion questions about the Book of Mormon. It discusses the geography and socio-political context of Lehi's time in Jerusalem around 600 BC. It also examines recurring themes in the early chapters of 1 Nephi such as murmuring, keeping the commandments, and seeking the Lord. Several quotes from prophets emphasize always following the living prophet and caution against making assumptions not revealed through proper authority.
The document discusses the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the central event of Christianity. It outlines the biblical evidence for the resurrection, including prophecies, Jesus' predictions of his death and resurrection, the empty tomb, and post-resurrection appearances. The document also addresses objections to the resurrection and the significance of the resurrection, which provides believers with hope of eternal life and victory over sin and death.
The document discusses developing a godly perspective. It provides three ways to do so:
1. Understand God's purpose by following His plan as shown through biblical figures like Moses and Joseph who endured hardship but God used for good.
2. Have faith in God's promises by believing what He has said, as seen in Romans where Abraham was convinced of God's promises.
3. Be assured of God's presence wherever you go, as God promised to be with Joshua as with Moses and as described in Psalm 23 with God's comfort during difficult times.
The document provides an overview of the Book of 1 Kings in the Bible. It discusses how 1 Kings traces Solomon's rise to kingship after David's death and the division of Israel into two kingdoms. It describes how most subsequent kings were evil and led Israel away from God, despite efforts of prophets like Elijah. Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to prove God's power and went into hiding when threatened by Queen Jezebel. The book highlights lessons for believers about avoiding idolatry and bad influences.

This document provides an overview of key aspects of the biblical book of Revelation. It begins by summarizing Revelation 1:1-3 which introduces the revelation that was given by God to Jesus Christ to show his servants things that would shortly take place. It then lists some of the main components and interpretation approaches to Revelation, including judgments, symbols, creatures, the preterist/historicist/futurist/idealist views. It discusses different perspectives on Revelation from figures like John Calvin, Thomas Jefferson, and Martin Luther. It closes by summarizing Revelation 19:11-16 which describes a vision of a rider on a white horse who will strike down the nations with a sword and whose name is declared to be King of Kings
Jephthah was an indispensable leader in the Bible who overcame rejection. He lived in "good" lands despite being cast out by his family. When his people needed a leader for war, they sought him out because he was known as a "mighty man of valor" who showed courage in adversity. Jephthah was also anointed by the Spirit of God, which empowered him to break the yoke of their enemies. The document argues that to be indispensable Christians today, believers must dwell in positivity despite hardship, be courageous through challenges, and rely on God's anointing for victory.

This document contains a summary of John 1:29-51 that focuses on how the passage presents Jesus through seven titles, metaphors, expressions, and miraculous signs. It explores how Jesus is revealed as the Messianic King and Teacher who is fully human and fully God, dying as the Passover lamb to defeat sin and death. The conclusion reflects on how Jesus' victory was achieved through apparent weakness and how the story brings both universal and personal meaning.
This document presents several Bible verses about strength from both the Old and New Testaments. The verses discuss different sources of strength, including seeking God and His strength, relying on God's power during times of weakness or difficulty, having courage through God being with you, and finding refuge and protection in God during trouble. Overall, the verses portrayed convey that God is a source of strength, power, and courage for believers to draw on.
(1) The document summarizes a Bible study on Matthew 27:20-26 about Jesus being crucified.
(2) It discusses how Pilate tried to release Jesus but the crowd demanded Barabbas be released instead and that Jesus be crucified.
(3) The resurrection signifies God's approval of Jesus' work on Earth and allows him to become the powerful spiritual force to redeem humanity.
The document discusses how weakness can lead to strength through faith in God. It notes that Paul was able to thrive in his weakness by relying on his faith in Christ. The document encourages the reader that they too can be strong through weakness, like Paul, by depending on God's strength and using their weaknesses as motivation to live for Jesus. It concludes by reminding the reader that acknowledging one's weaknesses shows their need for a savior to be saved from sin through faith in Jesus Christ.
The document discusses the source of spiritual strength in knowing Christ. It uses Peter as an example of how his weakness became strength through surrendering to Jesus and being filled with the Holy Spirit. Peter then preached boldly at Pentecost and amazed the Jewish leaders with his courage despite having no special scriptural training. The key messages are that spending time with Jesus builds faith, which leads to strength and spiritual results, and that God gives ordinary people extraordinary strength.
This document discusses how receiving the word of God causes one to go through a change process. It notes that whatever one believes, they become one with, and were designed to go where they see. It also mentions that the life God has planned is already pre-arranged, and the word is meant to convert and become flesh in us. Our unbelief must die spiritually so belief in God can be resurrected.

4th message in a series on the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul
The document discusses the importance of building strong relationships, particularly relationships within a congregation. It notes that Christians should love God and love their neighbors, and that within a congregation, believers are fellow citizens, heirs, workers, servants, and soldiers. The document also provides statistics about how people spend their time, with very little spent attending church services or with other Christians. It encourages Christians to stir one another up by spending more time together, being of the same mind, working for Christ's cause, loving one another, and supporting one another as the early church did.
The document discusses what it means to "walk in the spirit." It involves focusing on Jesus Christ by faith and letting Him guide one's life. This includes focusing on God's righteousness, goodness, and eternity. To walk in the spirit, one must renew their mind to God's word, let Christ rule their heart, and follow Him through faith like they did at salvation. The overall message is that Christians can live abundantly by focusing on God's goodness and obeying Him out of love for Him and others.

WE END UP LIVING LIFE DEPRIVED OF LASTING JOY & PEACE.IT IS TIME TO PUT OUR PAIN IN THE HANDS OF THE ONE WHO TRULY UNDERSTANDS & CARES....INTO THE LOVING CARE OF OUR FAITHFUL SHEPHERD,HE IS THERE WITH US CARRYING US THROUGH ALL OUR HURTS & PAINS...
In this lesson you will learn that one of the barriers to full joy is loving the world. John provides three reasons to love the Father and not to love the world: 1) We cannot love both the world and the Father; 2) Lusts for the world are not from the Father; and 3) the world is passing away but the obedient one abides forever.
Jesus faced temptation from Satan during his 40 days in the wilderness after his baptism. Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread when hungry, to jump from the temple to prove God's protection, and to worship Satan in exchange for ruling the world's kingdoms. Jesus overcame these temptations by quoting Scripture, showing that God's word would guide his ministry rather than selfish or presumptuous acts. His familiarity with Scripture helped him resist Satan's temptations at the beginning of his work.
The document discusses Jesus being tempted by Satan in the wilderness. It describes each of the three temptations Jesus faced - to turn stones to bread, throw himself from the temple, and receive power and glory if he worshipped Satan instead of God. Each time, Jesus resisted temptation by quoting scripture. We can overcome temptation by storing God's word in our hearts, living a life pleasing to God through complete surrender and obedience.
The document summarizes the three temptations of Jesus in the wilderness according to the Gospel of Luke. 1) Jesus was tempted to turn stone to bread to satisfy hunger without trusting in God. 2) He was tempted to test God by jumping from the temple roof and expecting to be saved. 3) He was tempted to gain power and authority over all lands by worshipping the devil instead of God. In each temptation, Jesus resisted taking shortcuts or forcing God's hand outside of His will and timing.
"Freedom is the capability and ability to remain true to yourself and those around you without fears not tears for prejudice nor politics".
and What does Freedom means to you?
The document discusses the history of Christianity from its founding by Jesus Christ in the 1st century CE through its spread and development, major events like the Protestant Reformation and Councils of the Church, and current topics such as ecumenism and relations with other world religions. It provides definitions of key Christian terms, outlines the major periods in Christianity's history, and examines differences between the Eastern and Western Churches as well as differences between Christian denominations. The document serves as an overview of the origins and evolution of Christianity over the past two millennia.
Os Hillman and his daughter Charis Hillman Brown lead a session for Mercy Ministries in Nashville, March 2015. The topic is on how to overcome hindrances in life to fulfill your God-designed purpose.
1. The document discusses whether Jesus' disciples should be seen as mercenaries or missionaries, focusing on their mission to spread Jesus' message rather than their own identity or interests.
2. It provides examples from military training and values to draw parallels with how disciples should conduct themselves, prioritizing honor, courage, and commitment on their mission.
3. Disciples face temptations to become like mercenaries who serve themselves rather than faithfully carrying out God's mission as missionaries who serve and represent Jesus.
The document discusses the spiritual battle between good and evil. It describes how Satan uses deception and false ideas or "fortresses" to mislead people away from God. Christians are called to fight against Satan's schemes by relying on the truth and power of God through prayer, knowing Scripture, and refusing to engage in intellectual battles on their own. The future is uncertain as sin increases, but believers can stand firm through the full armor of God, including prayer, the Bible, and focusing on truth over deception.
The document discusses the spiritual battle Christians face against evil forces. It notes that the battle is primarily over ideas and truth claims, not physical power. Christians are instructed to armor themselves with truth, prayer, and unity with other believers. They should rely on God's strength rather than their own intellect when confronting evil schemes. Constant prayer is emphasized as important for withstanding temptation and not losing heart in difficult times.
Session 6 Overcoming Hindrances to Fulfilling Your DestinyOs Hillman
This document summarizes a session on overcoming hindrances to fulfilling one's destiny. It discusses four primary hindrances: 1) an unbiblical view of work and ministry that separates sacred and secular, 2) the influence of Greek philosophy over Hebrew roots that prioritizes intellect over heart, 3) a religious spirit that maintains the status quo, and 4) generational strongholds and childhood wounds. It emphasizes that spiritual warfare involves recognizing and demolishing strongholds, which are developed through seeking to meet needs apart from God, in order to experience God's love freely.
M2013 s9 we ought to obey god rather than menJames Bradshaw
The early church grew rapidly through multiplication. Within a few years, the small group of 120 disciples grew to thousands and then tens of thousands of believers. This rapid growth brought adversity from religious leaders who tried to stop the spread of Christianity. However, Peter and the apostles were bold witnesses for Christ, obeying God over man. They testified that Jesus was the risen Savior through the power of the Holy Spirit. Growth requires Christians to have a positive attitude and be courageous witnesses through both their words and actions. God's kingdom will prevail regardless of any opposition.

Lying is addressed in the Ten Commandments. The document discusses how even Christians struggle with lying and provides examples from the Bible where people lied, including Adam and Eve, Cain, and Ananias and Sapphira. It asserts that Satan is the father of lies and lying goes against God's nature of truth. The document recommends strategies for addressing lying, which include diagnosing and capturing wrong thoughts, declaring and speaking the truth, and persisting in truth through challenges without giving up.
The document discusses defending and explaining the Christian gospel. It provides biblical passages encouraging Christians to always be ready to defend their faith. It defines apologetics as presenting reasonable defenses for the truth of Christianity. The goal of apologetics is to strengthen faith and remove obstacles for unbelievers to recognize the truth of the gospel. While arguments can't save, they can point people to Jesus by answering questions and objections. The document offers guidelines and cautions for respectful apologetic discussions.
How do you respond to the idea that there are spiritual powers and demons in the universe that are working against God's will?
How are you aware of the spiritual warfare around you? If Satan is a "deceiver" and our Lord calls him "the father of lies" then how have his lies affected your life? What lies have you believed (in the past, or possibly now) about yourself, others and God? These and other questions are addressed in this study.
In "Looking at the Big Picture" we look at what life is all about according to the Bible by looking at Jesus, the gospel, the church and the mission of the church. This teaching is the introduction to the gospel series "Growing Deep in the Gospel".
The document discusses why people refuse to believe in Jesus and the essential components of the gospel message. It explains that people refuse to believe because their hearts are sinful and they love darkness rather than light. It then outlines the gospel as: 1) Humans are sinful and spiritually dead, deserving God's wrath. 2) Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross to pay for sins, and rose again. 3) To be saved, one must repent of sins and place faith in Jesus. The gospel brings forgiveness and restores a right relationship with God.

1) The document provides an overview of Jesus' baptism and temptation in the wilderness as recounted in Matthew 3-4. It describes how Jesus was confirmed by God at his baptism when the Holy Spirit descended on him, and how he was then confronted by Satan during his 40 days of fasting.
2) It discusses the three temptations Jesus faced - to turn stones to bread, throw himself off the temple, and receive power and glory without the cross. Jesus resisted each temptation by quoting scripture.
3) The devil's temptations sought to get Jesus to prove himself without following God's plan, but Jesus remained faithful through the confirmation of his baptism. After the third temptation, angels
Rejecting the Influence of Secular HumanismPeter Hammond
This document discusses the influence of worldviews and the need to reject secular humanism. It argues that everyone is influenced by a worldview that shapes their values and guides their life. The Bible presents a worldview that answers fundamental questions of life and reality. In contrast, humanist worldviews like rationalism, empiricism, and materialism reject biblical revelation. It's important to evaluate people's underlying beliefs and the practical implications of their worldview to avoid being deceived.
WARFARE AGAINST THE WORLD Spiritual warfare 2Butch Yulo
This document discusses the three spiritual wars Christians face: against the flesh, the world, and the devil. It emphasizes that Christians must first win the war against the flesh through overcoming sinful desires and habits. They then need to win the war against the world by not loving or conforming to worldly systems and cultures. Only after gaining victory in these first two wars can Christians directly confront demonic powers. The document warns that failing to win the first two wars leaves "open gates" for demons to retaliate. It then examines how Satan controls and influences the world through sinful cultural systems and structures to achieve his purposes of defiling and enslaving people.
The document discusses temptation and how Jesus overcame temptation. It provides examples of biblical figures who faced temptation, such as Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and Job. It describes Jesus being tempted by Satan in the wilderness and overcoming each temptation by quoting scripture. It explains that temptation shows we can defeat Satan with God's help and develops perseverance. People can react to temptation by giving in, struggling with it, or overcoming it through Christ. The document offers advice on dealing with temptation and falling into sin.
Lesson 3 revelation seminars the villain of the drama of revelationNick Pellicciotta
This document provides a summary of Revelation Seminar Lesson #3, which discusses Satan and his role as the leader of evil forces in opposition to Jesus Christ. The key points covered are: Satan was originally the angel Lucifer who rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven along with one third of the angels; he deceives humanity through lies and false miracles; and will ultimately be destroyed in the lake of fire at the end of time, while believers can find victory over Satan through faith in Jesus Christ.

But we will never touch the deepest parts of our soul until we find what Jesus called "living water." We will experience more of that living water as we become dispensers of living water, just like the woman we'll study this week!

In John 3, Jesus teaches Nicodemus, a committed leader of Judaism, about the necessity of being born again. John 3 also lays out God's rescue mission of men and women who are lost, guilty, and without hope, in need of rescue! But most folks aren't interested, not believing they need rescuing, and certainly not interested in the remedy for sin.

This week we'll study John 2. As we read about Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding, and Jesus cleansing the temple, let’s make some observations about our human nature that often come back to bite us in the "you know what" in our personal life, relationships, and our relationship with God.

We so often hear the story of Mary this time of year, but it’s just as easy to gloss over the extreme cost it would have been to a young girl, to find herself graced with this ‘favor’ from God. What did it cost her in terms of her life’s plans? What did it cost her socially, with her family, with friends and neighbors? What does radical obedience cost us?

The document discusses Jesus as the coming king who will reign eternally based on passages from the Bible. It describes Jesus' birth being foretold and the Magi coming to worship the newborn king. While Jesus' kingdom is not of this world, it refers to God's rule over people's hearts and will continue to grow until the end of time. Jesus is the king of kings and ruler of everything who will welcome his followers into the kingdom of glory in heaven.

The Christmas message clearly spells out the deity of Christ, but this is not just a theological issue with which to ponder. It is meant to jolt us out of our spiritual stupor (sleepiness) to obeying "Jesus Christ our LORD." If obedience in our daily lives is replaced by right theology, then the boat has sailed without us.

What christ offers, what we offer p 1 seth gatchell november 22 2020Pacific Church
Beneath people's veneer are hidden questions. "Do I matter? Do I matter to anyone? Does someone really care about me?" People hunger and thirst for real "life," that sense of satisfaction that comes from being deeply connected with God and others. That is what Christ offers us, and He offers this real "life" through us to others! What we all want to know, is how does this happen?
The document discusses issues people have with the Bible and argues for its authority and trustworthiness. It notes that Jesus viewed the Bible as a story that reaches its climax in his life, and that he considered it trustworthy and authoritative. The document argues that Jesus is the ultimate authority, but that he mediates his authority through scripture, so obeying the Bible means obeying Jesus.
Jeremiah lamented over his people, weeping for their unfaithfulness and the destruction that would come. As the prophet of God, he faced opposition and persecution for delivering messages of judgment. He proclaimed that Jerusalem would fall to Babylon due to their sins. Still, God expressed tender compassion for Israel and a hope that they would one day return to Him.

Gender our biblical worldview part 7 seth g october 18 2020Pacific Church
In our day there is growing confusion about gender. There is a secular movement of thinking that seeks to minimize or obliterate any differences between genders. In this secular way of thinking, gender is something that one feels or identifies as. This is like leaving a great sailing ship on the high seas without sails and a rudder. It will be carried along wherever the current wishes, adrift on the open seas. The unintended consequences of this thinking is to create greater confusion for young people who already struggle with their gender and confusing feelings of their identity, but there is a wondrous design to complementary gender that seeks to build intimacy in a marriage, deeper relationships with people, and reflects the wonder of our Trinitarian God.

What does the bible say about marriage? Up until 15-20 years ago this was not a "controversial" topic. Everyone knew the answer. Our secular culture continues to send its tsunami waves at our Judeo-Christian heritage, causing great confusion. How are we to think about same-sex marriage? What does the bible say? Before we address those questions we will spend time reviewing what makes a marriage a biblical marriage.
As we continue our conversation on a Christian worldview, specifically as it deals with thinking through this upcoming election we are diving deeper and deeper into different issues. This week we are looking at the sanctity of life. What it means to be made in the image of God, to have value, and to be worthy of life, no matter what stage of life you are in.
A Biblical Worldview - The Role of GovernmentPacific Church
Our task is to always learn God's eternal truths and apply them to our lives. This includes how God views government. What does the bible say about government?
How do the bible's stories illustrate the truth or foolishness of how government is done? How do we apply the biblical truths in our country? This requires wisdom, discernment, humility and what the Bible calls "good sense."

We are a worshiping community. In that community our joys are magnified, and our sorrows shared. Unity, the experience of community that worships God together, serves together, loves together, and shares common purposes provides joy for the heart that cannot be found in isolation. We'll find five examples in the Psalms of Assent that illustrate our need for community and the opportunities community provides in a difficult world.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
