Lieutenant Commander Douglas B Vanderlip
United States Navy, Reserve
A native of Dimondale, MI, Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip
enlisted in the Navy in April of 1984. He was selected into the
Limited Duty Officer Program and commissioned in January
2001 while serving at the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve
Center Phoenix, AZ.
With a military career that spans over 31 years while serving in
the Navy Active Duty (AC) and the Navy Reserve (NR), his
first enlisted active duty assignment after complete Boot Camp
and Radioman “A” school at RTC/NTC San Diego CA was at
Naval Communication and Telecommunication Station Harold
E Holt in Western Australia as a Radioman. Later in his
enlisted career as a Petty Officer 3rd
Class, He went to sea
aboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) on a deployment that included a
world cruise, transiting Cape Horn (the tip of South America).
Commissioned into the Navy Reserve Limited Duty Officer
Program in January 2001, Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip
served as Administrative Division Officer for Phoenix based
Navy Reserve Unit; Naval Communication and
Telecommunication Area Master Station Pacific (NCTAMS PAC). During this tour, he led his Admin
division through the Navy’s transition to outsource IT with unprecedented results – The award of the
Navy and Marine Corp Internet (NMCI) contract.
Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip has served as Navy Cyber Operations Officer, Navy Network
Warfare Command (NNWC) and was handpicked to be part of the standup the Navy Cyber Forces (NCF)
Reserve unit. He deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in January 2012 as a senior mentor to the Afghan
National Army GSG6. Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip assumed his current duties on Active Duty for
Special Work as Deputy Technical Director, The Overseas Navy Enterprise Network (ONE-NET) at Fleet
Cyber Command on 01 April 2013 and retuned in September 2015 for his second tour of duty as the
Chief of Projects, Combined Joint Staff CJ6 in Kabul, Afghanistan at Resolution Support Head Quarters
(RS-HQ).
Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip professional career began with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 1990
where he advanced to Solutions Architect Staff Engineer. He led the development of the Enterprise
Management Architecture for the Navy and Marine Corps Internet (NMCI) and later assisted account
managers in growing revenues targets. Since Sept 2013, he was elected and continues to serve, completed
two terms as Chapter President, Armed Forces Communication and Electronic Association (AFCEA),
Hampton Roads.
Lieutenant Commander Vanderlip’ s professional specialties include Business Development, NGO
Executive Leadership, Security Consultant, Enterprise Architecture and Engineering. Lieutenant
Commander Vanderlip holds Navy qualifications as Information Professional AND Information
Dominance Warfare Officer. His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal and three
Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medals.
He is the father of two sons; James and Shawn and daughter Lynisha Rae; all residing close to him in
Chesapeake, VA.
