Proceed to Mawlynnong Village- the cleanest village in India.

Proceed to Cherrapunji in the morning.
Go caving at Mawsmai Cave, step on the bio

After breakfast, proceed to Kaziranga. Put up in an eco resort. The evening is free

13. DESTINATION OVERVIEW : GUWAHATI
Earlier known as Pragjyotishpur, the largest city in the North-East Region of India
is considered to be the "gateway" to the region. Its myths and history go back
several thousands of years, recent scientific evidences pointing to 6th Century AD.
It finds mention in the epics, puranas, and other traditional histories proving its
ancestry. It was the capital of the 'mythological' kings Naraka and Bhagadatta
according to the Mahabharata. The ancient Shakti temple of Goddess Kamakhya
located atop the Nilachal hills, the ancient and unique astrological temple
Navagraha located in Chitrachal Hill, and archaeological remains in Basistha and
other locations support the mythological assertions of the city's ancient past.
The great Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang revealed that during the reign of Bhaskara
varma (7th
century AD), the city was the principal base for his strong naval force
(30,000 war-boats, with officers who were knowledgeable of the sea-routes from
the Indian Ocean to China - Xuanzang).
There are a number of historic features in Guwahati.The Dighali Pukhuri is a
rectangular lake that was connected to the Brahmaputra, and was an ancient boa
t yard probably used by the Ahoms in medieval times. Moreover, there are many
tanks, temples, ramparts, etc. in the city. The major tourist attractions are the
KAMAKHYA TEMPLE, THE NABAGRAHA TEMPLE, BASITHA ASHRAM, STATE
MUSEUM, CHANDUBI LAKE, DEEPAR BILL, SUALKUCHI, HAJO, MADAN KAMDEV,
POBITORAWILDLIFE SANCTUARY, PANDU, ETC.

14. KAZIRANGA
Kaziranga National Park, apart from being home to a breeding population of 35
mammalian species, ofwhich 15 are threatened as per the IUCN Red List also has the
distinction of being home to the world's largest population of the great Indian
One – horned Rhinoceros, Wild Asiatic Water Buffalo and the Eastern Swamp Deer.
There are significant populations of large herbivores include Elephants,Gaur and
Sambar and Small herbivores including the Indian Muntiac, Wild Boar and Hog Deer.
This park is one of the few wild breeding areas outside Africa for multiple species of
large cats, such as Indian tigers and Leopards with the record of the highest density
of tigers in the world (one per fivekm²). Other felids include the jungle cat, fishing cat,
and leopard cats. Small mammals include the rare Hispid Hare, Indian Gray Mongoose,
Small Indian Mongooses, Large Indian Civet, Small Indian Civets, Bengal Fox,
Golden Jackal, Sloth bear, Chinese Pangolin, Indian pangolins, hog badger, Chinese ferret
badgers and Parti-coloured flying squirrel. Nine of the 14 primate species found in India
occur in the park prominent among them being the Assamese Macaque, Capped & the
Golden Langur, as well as the only ape found in India - the Hollock Gibbon. Kaziranga's
rivers are also home to the endangered Gangetic Dolphin.
Kaziranga has been identified by Birdlife International as an important bird area. It is home
to a varietyof migratory birds, water birds, predators, scavengers, and game birds. Birds
such as the Lesser Whitefronted Goose, Ferruginous duck, Baer’s Pochard duck, the
Lesser & the Greater Adjutant Stork, Blacknecked Stork, The Asian Openbill Stork migrate
from Central Asia to the park during winter. Riverine birds include the Blyth’s kingfisher,
White-bellied heron, Dalmatian pelican, Spot-billed pelican, Spotted Greenshank and
Black-bellied Tern. Birds of prey include the rare Eastern Imperial, Greater spotted
White-tailed Pallas’s fish eagle and the Lesser Kestrel.

15. SHILLONG
The erstwhile capital of the provincial state of Assam under British rule and the present
capital of Meghalaya, situated at a height of 4,908 feet, Shillong is also known as the
Scotland of the East due to its similarity with the Scottish Highlands. The name Shillong
is derived from “LEISHYLLONG”- the God who resides at the Shillong Peak. An ideal
holiday destination throughout the year because of Its climate & natural beauty, the
major tourist spots in and around includes:
Wards Lake: More than a century old, this picturesque horse shoe shaped artificial lake
is extremely popular for its garden walks and boating facilities. Full of fish, it's a
common sight in this lake to see tourists feeding the fishes from the bridge over it.
The lake is encircled by a winding walk-way and is inter spread with gently sloping
flowerbeds and innovative illumination, edged in by luxuriant greens.
Lady Hydari park: Spread over four hectares, this Japanese Style Landscaped park
named after thewife of Sir Akhbari Hydari, the first Indian Governor of Assam,
is eye-catching with roses and blossoms of exquisite colors. It also houses a mini zoo
coupled with a deer park which is home to about 73 birds,140 reptiles and mammals.
Shillong Peak: Standing at 1961 meter above sea level, the Shillong Peak is an ideal
picnic spot and offers an absolutely awe inspiring bird's eye view of the city and the
scattered villages around the peak.
Shillong Golf Course: Also known as the Gleneagles of the East and one of the highest
and the most scenic of golf courses in the country at an altitude of 5200 ft., this
eighteen-hole course built in 1898 is also one of the oldest in the country covering an area of
5873 yards. It also boasts of a 594 yards sixth
hole, which is the farthest amongst all courses in India.

16. SHILLONG
Motphran: The “Stone of France” - was erected in memory of the many tribesmen from the
North Eastern part of India who served under the British in France during the 1st world war.
Umium Lake: Created by damming the Umium River in early 60’s, this lake serves as a major
tourist attraction for the state of Meghalaya. It is also a popular destination for water sport
and adventure facilities.
Elephant Falls: Located just outside Shillong, it provides a unique sight wherein the water
columncarves out its way and surrenders to gravity at two successive locations. The gigantic
stream accumulated just at the pinnacle comes crashing down the terrain and rebounds only
to cover a short distance and once again leaps into a daunting gorge. The very sight of
natural pandemonium is enough to make one miss a heartbeat and leap with joy. The
surrounding basin sheltered by the sky like green vegetation provides a perfect backdrop to
this enchanting picnic spot.
Smit: 17 Kms South of Shillong is the traditional seat of Khasi culture and is famous for the
annual Nongkrem dance performed during November. Close by in Nongkrem village there is
one traditional house owned by the Lyngdohs, which is 100 years old.
Mawphlang: One of the most famous sacred forest preserved by traditional religious sanction
since time immemorial is the Mawphlang Sacred Forest about 25 kms from Shillong. The
sacred grove has an amazing life form of plants, flowering trees, orchids and butterflies. An
ideal destination for botanists & nature lovers, these groves are generally rimmed by a dense
growth of Castanopsis Kurzii trees forming a protective hedge which halts intrusion of Pinus
kasia (Khasi pine) which dominates all areas outside the sacred groves.

17. CHEERAPUNJI
The wettest place on earth, Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra and located at an average
height of 4869 ft. and 56 kms. away from Shillong, is a nature’s paradise with Amazing
Nature Treks ,Mesmerizing Waterfalls, Natural Swimming Pools, Captivating Sunsets, Living
Root Bridges, angling& birding spots. Cherrapunji experiences only one season- Monsoon. The
main places to visit are:
Mawkdok Dympep Valley View: Located at the entrance to Sohra, this view-point offers a
spectacularview of the natural surroundings.
Sa-I-Mika Park: Located on the way to the world famous ‘Dainthlen Falls’ and about 3 kms
before reaching Sohra town, set amidst 69 acres of pristine surroundings this park is a one
stop tourist.
Dain-Thlen Falls: Just before reaching Sohra, a road to the right, leads one to the falls which
is 5 kms away. The waterfall derives its name from a Thlen or a snake of gigantic size which
dwelt in a cave.
Noh-Kalikai Falls: A hauntingly beautiful waterfall, cascading down from the top of the gorge
to themystic deep green pool below, reminding one of the tragic legend associated with it, of a
grief stricken mother who plunged to her death, unable to overcome her sorrow over the
murder of her daughter by
her husband.
Kper Syiem Sohra: By the side of the Pomsohmen stream lies the cremation ground of the
Sohra Syiemship (Cherra Chieftain). The Cremation process of the dead Syiem (Chief) of Sohra
is one of the most expensive and intricate ceremonies. The body of the Syiem is normally kept
for years together, if
customary formalities are not performed by the Syiem-elect.

18. CHEERAPUNJI
Mawmluh Cave: One of the longest caves in the Indian Sub Continent, the
entrance to the cave is About 10 ft. above water level. A single entrance leads to
a double passageway, where the upper portion in certain areas has caved in due
to the intensive quarrying of limestone above the cave. The river enters the cave
and forms pools of water within the cave. This cave stretches for about 4,500
meters.
Eco Park: Offering a breathtaking view of the Sylhet plains of Bangladesh, the
park hosts several hybrid and indigenous species of orchids.
Mawsmai Caves: At a distance of 6 kms from the Sohra market these caves are
impressive formations of large passages and chambers
.
Ka Khoh Ramhah: Also known as Motrop, it is an imposing single rock formation
in the shape of a giant cone. According to folklore, this was the fossilized cone
shaped basket of an evil giant. It lies in close proximity to two other very similar
rocks standing like a pair of giant sentinels. During monsoons, water flows
between the two rocks and the cascading waterfall presents a breathtaking
sight.The place attracts a lot of visitors throughout the year and is an idyllic
picnic spot.

19. MAWLYNNONG VILLAGE
Mawlynnong Village has earned the distinction of being the cleanest village in
India. It is situated 90kms. from Shillong and besides the picturesque village,
offers many interesting sights such as the Living root bridge and another strange
natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock.Mawlynnong nestled
in the pristine hill state of Meghalaya, is along the Indo-Bangla border. This cute
and colourful little village is known for its cleanliness. The main occupation of the
villagers is agriculture. They mostly grow betel nut. About 82 households live in
Mawlynnong. Keeping the surrounding environment clean is an age old tradition.
Discover India magazine declared the village
as the cleanest in Asia in 2003.A dustbin made out of bamboo is found all along
the village. Every one makes it a point that dirt and waste are not thrown
everywhere. All the waste from the dustbin is collected and kept in a pit, which
the villagers use as manure. The villagers are now on a mission to ban plastic. The
village with cent
per cent literacy is conscious and they are spreading the message of conservation
and protection of the forest. Locals plant trees to ensure that the virgin forest is
kept intact and also replenished.
Mawlynnong's fame is now drawing an endless stream of guests from across the
country and abroad. Although residential facilities are still scarce and are in the
process ofbeing developed, the existing one constructed from bamboo and thatch is
quite hospitable and restful. Mawlynnong is an artist's delight and the sort of
getaway that would titillate creative writers and poets.

20. NAMERI NATIONAL PARK
Located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas about 35 kms from Tezpur this
park shares its northern boundary with the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary, together
constituting an area of over 1000 km2 of semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests
with cane and bamboo brakes and narrow strips of open grassland along rivers.
This is excellent elephant country and ideal habitat for a host of other animals
including the tiger. It is also home to the Leopard, Bison, Sambar, the Asiatic wild
dog, Hog Deer, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Capped
Langur, Indian Giant Squirrel
etc., Nameri is a birder's paradise with over 300 species of birds - including the
endangered White winged wood duck, four distinct species of the Hornbill, Blue-
bearded Bee – eaters, Babblers, Plovers.
