3. The traffic light technique
01
The traffic light as a study technique
4. The traffic light as
a study technique
The traffic light technique is often
used to work on self-control,
especially in primary school
students.
However, we can also use it as a
study technique.
5. The objective of the traffic light
technique as a study technique is to
manage pending tasks by
prioritizing them in order of
importance.
To do this, we will use the different
colors that indicate different degrees
of priority:
The traffic light as a study technique
High priority
(urgent)
Mid priority
(important but
not urgent)
Non-priority
6. How to use it
How to use the traffic light technique?

7. General concepts
Always write all your
tasks down
Best take notes with
a pencil*.
Make a preliminary
list of all tasks
Can be listed on a
daily or weekly basis
*Sometimes a task may end up going from green to red after a couple of weeks, use
an online tool
8. Use for daily list (primary education)
The student reviews in their planner the tasks they
has to do at home that day
They perform tasks in order of priority
In the traffic light template, they write each task
in the corresponding color*.
01
02
03
*In the case of the daily list we can use red, green and orange post-its.
9. Use for weekly list (from 5th and 6th grade
of primary school)
01 02
The student reviews the weekly
homework assignments in their
planner / agenda
They write down in pencil (so that it
can be erased) the weekly tasks on
the template, each task in the
corresponding color
10. Use for weekly list (from 5th grade onwards)
03
Throughout the week, they will have to:
● Cross out the tasks performed
● Note new tasks that may arise
● Change some tasks if they change their
priority*.
*If we have several tasks in
each color, it may be useful
to include numbering in
each list and modify it if the
priority changes.
11. Use for studying for an exam
(from 5th grade onwards)
In this case the student will have to distribute the topics according to the level of
knowledge (if they know it better or worse):
The topics that I know the
worst and therefore have
to study first
The topics that I know
best and that I can
therefore leave to the end
Intermediate level topics
12. ACNEAE use
It is a very useful tool for students
with special educational needs such as
ASD or ADHD to learn how to organize
and manage school tasks as well as
home or daily life tasks.
