1. Employment
Job in cake shop
In the first winter vacation when I was in Liaoning University,I wanted to find a job to
enrich my work experience. However,it is not easy to find a job because of lack of work
experience. Then,I did some research online, and finally I found a job in a small cake
shop, but it is the first step that is troublesome. After orientation, the owner of the shop
asked us(4 new employee) to make a cake.Only the team that can get recognition from
him can be reserved.,and we were divided into two groups.
We must bake a cake by ourselves in order to get this job.I,interviewed a majority of people of
which kind of cakes did they like, and I discussed key issues with my teammates about how to
make beautiful decorations, and I also gathered and shared first-hand information with my
teammates.I was responsible for presenting the baking process to the owner of the cake shop on
behalf of my team, and the owner was really impressed by my high-quality and detailed oral
presentation.
He said I am the most industrious worker he has ever met,and he gave me extra 100 RMB as a
reward for also explaining the chemical reaction of ingredients.
Every time my customer made an requirement,I would discuss with her to get further
understanding of her needs.I needed to know details of her requirements about decorations so as to
make her satisfied. This work strengthens both my communication skills and my problem-solving
skills.
2. Work as my own boss
In my first year in Liaoning University,I noticed the potential of my classmates preferred to buy
second-hand book online in order to save costs. Then,I made an online market research about
which kind of book you like, there were three options, online book,second-hand book and new
book. The percentage of people who would like to buy a second-hand book was about 89%.Under
this circumstance,I made a decision of opening an online bookshop to sell second-hand book.
It was not as easy as I imagined,I needed to collect the second-hand books,I bought lots of second-
hand books from my friends and classmates. Then,I needed to registered a legal entity online and
updated the information about the books everyday. It was very difficult to earn money because
even though there was a great demand,I could got marginal revenue from these books because of
the conditions.
I found out a solution of posting advertisement on the website and offered different discounts
about different types of purchasing. For example,I offered different discounts to the customer who
bought 5 books one time and customers who bought one book 5 times separately in order to attract
more customers. It worked and I earned really a large amount of money about 10,000RMB in 5
months.
One day,one of my employee mixed the addresses of customers,so she delivered goods
to the wrong customer by mistake, and the customer got very angry. When my employee
told me about this situation,I identified issues immediately and apologized to the
customer at first time.Besides,I offered him to receive the wrong goods as presents, and I
would also send him the goods that he ordered with no charges which including both the
freight charges and the goods charges. In addition,I offered him a 20% discount when he
purchased in my shop next time. That offer was accepted and that customer even made a
recommendation of our shop on the Internet for our incredible service attitudes.
I gained lots of experience from operating second-hand bookshop, and I developed
several skills like problem-solving skill,communication skill,software-using skills.
3. Jobs about Ceramic art
In my first year in Junior High school I took a fancy into making ceramic items. It was
really hard to control the shape of the mud at the beginning, and I felt very disappointed
with that situation. After practicing thousands of times,I got the point and could be able
to control the power when the ceramic spinning wheels worked at very fast speed. Then,I
got attached into this special skill as utilizing my skills and imagination to create items
that are beautiful as well as functional transforming something ordinary into something
special and unique.
Occasionally, one day in my summer vacation, when I passed a art studio,I saw the
advertisement on the wall, the art studio needs a potter who can shape a clay and repair
embryo, and I thought I was the most appropriate person who can be able to handle this
work. When I stepped into the studio, the boss of the studio thought I was too young to
have this skill.I told him I can do it,but he did not believe me at all.I wanted this job
because this is a perfect job which can combine interest and work. Therefore,I asked an
opportunity from him to let me show what I got,and he agreed.
When I finished that ceramic,he said it was too beautiful, and I was employed. At that
4. summer vacation,I spent nearly 9 hours a day in the studio to give people instructions
about how to control the shape of the mud,how to make the mud as the way they like.
The two photos below are my customers’ ceramics,I felt very proud with my work. All of
these ceramics were modified by my hands. This special work assists me in developing
and implementing innovation ways to approach client needs,to identify the issues they
face and be responsible for customers’ satisfaction.
