Editor's Notes
The leading text states ‘pop music since the turn of the century has been more exciting, more subversive, more forward thinking and downright danceable than ever. ’NMES double page spread shows a variety of different pop artists. like lady gaga, sugababes, Justin Timberlake, girls aloud and timberland. Even though they all come under kind of the same genre ie pop there is still different styles with in them which appeals to a variety of people rather than like just one closed group. This page shows that there is alot diversity in just this one genre and in turn this allows the magazine to attract a broader audience as it appeals to a variety of different people.
Throughout the article there is not really language that you can’t understand or really heavy types of slang, this in my opinion makes the article more appealing as people wont be put off by it if they dontunderstnd what they are talking about. There is still how ever colloquial language and a conversational tone is used. like ‘filthy fingers’ ‘wickedly clever’ and casual language like ‘how the hell’ and ‘naff as hell’ makes these different types of language allows the reader more relaxed and at ease. The main article title is also a play on words showing that the article is not about the ‘sound of the underground’ and rather the more mainstream music that we experience in day to day life.
This double page only really uses three basic colours which are white, black and red. These could be the main colour as they are the colour scheme of NME’s title. The things that they want people to focus on like the leading text the drop cap and the pull quote. They have probably only used these certain colours as they wanted to like tie in the whole magazine together throughout the pages. The simplicity of the colour scheme allows the readers to concentrate on the content rather than anything else
The main font type that is being used is a sans serif font this is very bold and gives a stronger impact on the double page spread, it also helps highlight the more important areas of the spread which in turn draws your eye to the leading title first. They use the same colour scheme and font throughout the front cover as well this like the colour scheme is another to keep the consistency throughout the magazine and in the double page.
