2. INPATIENT EATING DISORDER
Inpatient eating disorder clinics are necessary for anorexics when their
bad eating habits have led to physical problems that may be life-
threatening or have reached a point of severe psychological or
behavioural issues. Inpatient stays usually entail a phase of outpatient
follow up and aftercare to focus on the main problem and may include
hospitalisation or residential admittance in eating disorder treatment
facilities.

3. THE PROCESS:
The treatment is made up of a highly structured programme
designed to curtail the patients’ bad eating behaviours, begin
normalising body weight, as well as identify and explore
psychosocial issues behind the eating problem. Patients admitted to
an inpatient eating disorder programme are medically evaluated
prior to admission. The treatment components usually include an
eating programme, individual and group therapy, family therapy, and
medications as needed. An individualised therapy plan is developed
for each patient, and each patient’s treatment is overseen by a
coordinator who also provides the patient’s assessment to the
treatment team. The treatment team members are experts in the
