During the process of flocking, flocks that are allowed to fall freely onto the adhesive coated fabric can form an uneven layer of fibres on the fabric. Valstat® HV charging generators prevent this. Read the application note to find out how.

Electrostatic charging for better flocking
Problem
Flocking is the process of applying short monofilament fibres, called as “flocks”, directly on to a fabric that has
been previously coated with an adhesive. Through a rotary flock hopper, flocks are allowed to fall freely onto
the fabric. This method can however result in the clogging of the flocks and cause the formation of an uneven
layer of the fibres on the fabric, which is undesirable.
Solution
Valstat® HV charging generators are designed to provide a predefined HV DC voltage. The Valstat® HV
charging generator delivers a controlled high voltage to the grid which in turn induces the appropriate
electrostatic charges to the flocks. These charges orient the flocks perpendicularly to the fabric, while they are
falling, ensuring that fibres are anchored into the adhesive coated fabric at right angles giving a dense and
pile-like finish.
