El Morro Castle in Puerto Rico was built by the Spanish as a military fortification with casemates, gunrooms, bastions including the Ochoa Bastion, and batteries such as the Carmen Battery to defend against attacks from the sea or land. The fort has a moat, drawbridge, and hornwork and features like garitas, a lighthouse, and views of the cannons and ocean from its lower patio and Austria Bastion.
