Marriott team presentation_for_linked_inNaian Chang
Marriott can improve its earnings over the next two years by exceeding consensus expectations by $200 million through more sustainable operations, improving its loyalty program, and selling off underperforming hotel units. Sustainable operations like reducing energy and waste usage can increase efficiency. The loyalty program lacks differentiation from competitors and automatic check-in could attract more business travelers. Selling the mid-tier hotel portfolio would generate $4.6 billion while improving the overall brand.

2) Half of companies define sustainability as environmental quality or carbon footprint and see it as a top priority.
3) Most companies are already engaged in sustainable practices and see it as important despite economic challenges.
4) Cost is viewed as the biggest challenge for sustainable programs but many see economic benefits to renewable feedstocks.

This presentation was delivered by Diaa El-Masry, Qatar Green Leaders, to a local master hospitality developer in Doha, Qatar. It was aimed at giving the decision makers a clear vision about greening a hospitality asset.
Tourism and hospitality have grown significantly in India in recent years. As concerns about environmental sustainability have increased, some hotels have adopted green practices and become "ecotels" by implementing policies and technologies to reduce their environmental impact. Ecotels must meet certification criteria in areas like energy and water management, waste reduction, and raising environmental awareness among staff. While ecotels aim to balance profits and environmental protection, some critics argue certification is simply a marketing strategy rather than a true commitment to sustainability.
