EGGER Compact Laminate - Elegant, Hygienic, Robust
The EGGER compact laminate captivates not only by its optically attractive design, it offers, thanks to its durability and moisture resistance, entirely new design opportunities for furniture and interior fit-outs. The compact laminate is particularly suitable for interior applications subjected to high stress, as well as demanding requirements in terms of hygiene and cleanliness, such as in restaurants, hospitals, or cleanrooms.
It is also used in wet areas, such as for example in bathrooms, sanitary facilities, and changing rooms. It is the combination of robustness and elegant look that makes the compact laminate so interesting for a multitude of solutions within the commercial project field.
EGGER has a simple philosophy. And that is, if you are going to make something, make it the very best you can.
After the success of the EGGER Zoom Collection, the Zoom New Introductions 2015-2016 provide even more combination possibilities for applications in furniture and interior design.
Discover new technology such as PerfectSense, and explore the potential of combining synchronised pore textures with the imperfections of nature, to create authentic and realistic finishes.
Our Contemporary resource of worktops has been developed to coordinate with the latest colour tones in kitchen design. We are uniquely positioned to do this because we produce the worktop as well as the materials that are used in other areas of the kitchen, such as doors and end panels, giving you the resources to achieve a coordinated look.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Introduction
Raising Expectations
Technology has given consumers more choice and a clearer
vision of what they want. The prevalence of smart phones
and tablets has enabled consumers to easily find and save
the things that inspire them, whenever and wherever they are.
This world of favourites, shares, wish lists and likes has opened
the floodgates for inspiration and demand. When it comes
to interiors and design, consumers now access, send and
receive a constant stream of ideas from around the world.
The result: consumers expect high-value looks without the
high-end price tags.
With EGGER’s latest updates, furniture manufacturers can be
more creative in a market where differentiation is king, while
designers, joiners and shop fitters have the power to produce
enhanced interiors that offer technical performance at the right
price. Inside Insight, you’ll discover our response to the major
cultural shifts that are influencing our lives and shaping the
environments we live in. We hope you enjoy the applications
and ideas that are featured.
Open your eyes to the future, today.

6. Leading the way by investing in innovation,
EGGER has been able to develop decors and
textures that recognise the desire for natural and
authentic looking and feeling products. Through
quantum leaps in our product development in
recent years, we can now demonstrate the quality
and diversity of our new generation of products.

8. Evolved & Authentic
Never before have our decors looked so real
To demonstrate this evolution, we present three of our
oak decors. Despite being developed over ten years ago
H1334, Light Ferrara Oak, remains incredibly popular
and versatile. It has been selected for premium hotels
and shops as well as domestic kitchens and bathrooms.
To show how decors from the same species have improved
and evolved, we have presented H1334 against a more
heavily textured and realistic oak decor, H1372, introduced
in 2012, and set that alongside our brand new generation
of finishes where the grain and texture align with H3309.
We call this new generation, Feelwood, as both the visual
and tactile aesthetic of wood have been recreated.
It’s all about giving you the choice and the ability to
offer your customers different options depending on
their expectations and budget.

Meeting consumer expectations
Demand for modern, yet very natural looks is apparent
in both domestic and commercial markets. From doors
and sideboards to tables and wall panelling, consumers
expect the feel of the finish to reflect the look. H1793,
Lava Tortona, which uses a striking and elegant textured
surface, Feelwood Elegance (ST27), shows just how far our
reproductions have come.

12. Evolved & Authentic
Lightfast and durable
Not only do our reproductions look and feel the same as
veneer or solid wood, they are extremely durable and also
lightfast, which means items placed on top will not affect
the surface. Furthermore, if a replacement panel is required,
a reproduction will be a perfect colour match to the panels
already in-situ.

Opening up opportunities
By providing a premium look and feel, the new generation
of synchronised finishes can open up the possibility of
entering new markets or segments. For example, furniture
manufacturers can now develop a new, higher value range
or piece of furniture, door or kitchen.
Specifiers or shop fitters can also offer a higher value look
and a more cost-effective and durable alternative to veneer.
23
14. Introducing a new generation of textured finishes where
the markings of the grain align. Known as ‘synchronised
pore’, this process opens up the possibility of entering
new markets. For example, furniture manufacturers can
now develop a new, higher value range or piece of
furniture, door or kitchen. Specifiers or shopfitters can
also offer a higher value look and a more cost-effective
and durable alternative to veneer.
The planked character exhibits
a modern mix of natural shades
that combine extremely well
with neutral tones.
With a double paper layer and
highly realistic gloss variations
it creates a depth and realism
evident of veneer or timber.
The very deep, sandblasted
appearance of Gladstone
Oak is enhanced by
scattered knots.
Feelwood is a new development
where-by the texture and
print align, to create a high
value finish.
15. Consumer Insight #2 Slim & Sleek
25
Evolved & Authentic Material evolution makes things easier
The use of real stone and minerals for kitchen worktops is an
established trend, but often for large expanses in a commercial
setting it can be difficult to fabricate and extremely heavy,
not to mention the high price. One of our latest textures,
ST87, explores a new direction by combining concrete
and ceramic to help create a contemporary, used look or
industrial style that is both practical to fabricate and easy
to maintain.

and the MFC wall panelling.
28
19. Optically thinner design
Slim and sleek looks don’t have to require new materials.
By simply cutting in a certain way, you can create
the impression of a thinner board. Take this example,
a 30 mm MDF board, laminate faced with H3420 ST36,
Thermo Pine, has been chamfered at a 45˚angle to
give the impression that it is very thin, while retaining
all its inherent strength required for the application.
Because EGGER offers both laminate and melamine faced
board in the same decor and texture, both materials can
be used and coordinated across a project. The laminate,
used for the table top on the previous page, is matched to
the wall panelling that is made from melamine faced board.
This ability to match products according to their required
performance level can significantly reduce project costs.

Door evolution
The five-piece or Shaker style door has a new alternative in the shape
of the three-piece, or trio door. The trio offers a sleeker look than the
Shaker, without encroaching on the market share currently occupied
by the super clean slab option. Manufacturers and fabricators now
have the option to make their own trio style door or panel, while
avoiding the cost and stock commitments of buying from third parties.
Within a kitchen or bedroom, making the door from the same material
as the carcass will also provide a coordinated look, adding to the value.

21. Consumer Insight #3 Personality & Expression
New uses for familiar materials
Materials that are used in alternative application areas can
inspire slim and sleek design. Take Compact Laminate for
instance; the go-to product for cubicles due to it being
impervious to moisture, incredibly strong and potentially
thin. In this instance, 10 mm thick EGGER Compact Laminate,
is used to frame the storage units in an office. It gives a
sleek look to what would otherwise be a bulky storage item.
The design of the doors using H3344, Highline Oak, continues
the linear look.

25. Splashes of colour
Contrary to the name, colour-blocking is not all about lots
of colour. A contemporary technique is to use colour as a
small accent only. It could be a relatively subtle splash in
combination with a very natural, rustic-looking wood grain
as featured, or maybe as a contrasting edge.
Personality & Expression
Traditionally, panels are finished with a matching
edge but designers are increasingly using the edge
creatively. It could either be a colour that coordinates
with a tone from the panel, like the white shown on

Balancing tone and texture
Even when a strong grain is featured, as with H3760,
White Cape Elm, the soft colour-tone ensures it is not
overpowering. When it is teamed with more soft, solid
colours the effect is sophisticated and stylish. The grain
of H3760 is also synchronised with texture ST29 to
create a premium finish that could increase the value
of your work and enhance your position in the market.

Calm & Collected
1. An oak effect in two complementary
colours being used together; H1377,
Sand Orleans Oak, with H1379, Brown
Orleans Oak. Although a heavily
brushed texture (ST36) is used,
the colour-tone is muted so that the
furniture does not need to shout to
be noticed.
2. Similarly, using more than one of our
plain colours together will create this
tone-on-tone look. Together U702,
Cashmere, and U748, Truffle, make
a very sophisticated combination.
3. By using the similar colour-tone of
a plain colour and wood grain also
creates this tone-on-tone effect –
U702 and H1377.
4. A darker tone-on-tone effect can also
be achieved with U748 and H1379.

Tone-on-tone
The use of contrasting colours is nothing new but we
have identified a rise in the use of colours of a similar
tone being used together to create a subtle but very
well-considered look.

36. How we line up
Bookmatching, where the grain of the wood lines up across
two or more pieces is normally reserved for luxury furniture
and fittings. This is because it requires more care and
attention during its manufacture, as well as resulting in
a higher wastage of material.
With laminate and melamine faced boards however, there is
significantly less wastage than there would be with timber
or veneer. And while it still does require more time and care,
the result can open up a new price segment and significant
opportunities.

37. Next generation surfacing
Sometimes the details that matter are already
provided for you. Now that our new Feelwood
generation of wood based panels can synchronise
the grain with the texture, you can create furniture
that is as close to wood as it’s ever been before.
The potential to command a premium or gain
market share is now a reality.
Sawn timber-look
The quality of an edge can define the overall perception of a
piece of furniture or worktop. It is now possible to replicate
the look of a piece of sawn timber using an ABS Edge through
our new development–End Grain Edging. This is available
for most of the 2014–15 wood grain finishes we have featured.
Details Matter Using depth to create a new look
Layering within furniture is a technique EGGER has observed
at recent international furniture shows. With the addition
of an extra third dimension, stepping each of the panels
can create furniture with standout appeal, without being
too invasive or loud.

2 mm
For particularly high traffic
areas 2 mm thick edging is
recommended.
0.8 mm
Because 0.8 mm edging is
thinner it does not have a
noticeable plastic line along
its length.
No compromises
When the edging and surface of a piece of furniture match,
it adds real quality and value. That’s why EGGER edging is
specifically matched to EGGER boards in terms of colour,
decor, texture and gloss level. Plus, sourcing your edging
from your board supplier makes both operational and
economic sense.
0.8 mm
Due to it being thinner the
0.8 mm edging looks like it’s
part of the board, making it
look sleek and more realistic.
