MEANING OF EDUCATION
• EDUCARE means to lead out, to bring up, to
nourish, or to rear, to draw out.
• E- means out of and DUCO means I lead out of
i.e., EDUCO means I lead out of (ignorance)
• Education in the modern times, has acquired
two different shades of meaning, namely,
• A) An institutional instruction, given to students
in the school or colleges formally,
• B) A pedagogical science, studied by the
students of education.

शिक्षणाचा अर्थ
• शिक्षण = शिकशिणे + शिकणे
• मूळ िब्द संस्क
ु त –िास- म्हणजे अध्यापन , शनयमन,
शनयंत्रण, शिस्त .
• शिक्ष- म्हणजे उपदेि करणे, बदल घडिून आणणे,
• ऋग्वेद :- ‘व्यक्तीला आत्मशनर्थर ि शनस्वार्ी बनिते ते
शिक्षण होय’.
• उपशनषद :- ‘सा शिद्या या शिमुक्तये’ !
• याज्ञिाल्क्या :- ‘व्यक्तीला चारीत्रािान ि समाजोपयोगी
बनिते ते शिक्षण होय’.

DEFINITION OF EDUCATION
• PLATO:- ‘Education is giving to the body and soul,
all perfection of which they are susceptible’.
• ARISTOTAL:- ‘A creation of sound mind in sound
body is said to be education’.
• DEWEY:- ‘What nutrition's are to physiological
life, education is to social life’.
• MAHATMA GANDHIJI:- ‘By education, I mean, all
round drawing out of the best in man-body, mind
and spirit’.
• SWAMI VIVEKANAND:- ‘ Education is the
manifestation of the perfection in man’. Religion
is the innermost core of education’.

• महात्मा गांधीजी :- ‘माणसाच्या िारीररक , मानशसक,
ि आध्यात्मत्मक, अंगांमधील उत्क
ृ ष्टतेचा शिकास ि
अशर्व्यत्मक्त म्हणजे शिक्षण’.
• आचायथ शिनोबा र्ािे :- शिक्षण कोणतीही गोष्ट नव्याने
शनमाथण करण्याचे, िा अस्तीत्त्वात आणण्याचे कायथ
करीत नाही. सुप्त चैतन्य िा शनद्र् तीत िक्ती जागृत
करण्याचे एक साधन म्हणजे शिक्षण’.
