This initiative aims to teach basic literacy, numeracy, and arithmetic skills to under-12 children in 10 schools in the Gros Morne region of Haiti. Currently, illiterate children in small villages outside Gonaives have few educational resources and can only attend school if their parents can pay teacher wages and food is provided. The goal is for all children to be able to read, write, and do basic math through assisting novice teachers and leveraging a new mobile network investment to support the fragile existing education system.

Inkululeko aims to provide South African township youth with the skills and support needed to succeed in education and employment. This document summarizes initial findings from a study on poverty and parenting. It examines measures of parenting, data on the relationship between parenting practices, poverty, education and time, and profiles of parents engaged in different activities with their children. The study found no evidence of a group of "poor parents" doing "poor parenting". Instead, most parents engage in activities with children multiple days a week, and highly educated parents are more likely to do so daily. The conclusions suggest rethinking assumptions about poor parenting and poverty, and focusing more on the parenting practices of highly educated families.

These children face dangerous working conditions such as mining without regulations or working with poisonous chemicals. They also have their childhoods ruined by working long hours instead of playing, and lack education opportunities which leads to illiteracy and inability to get future jobs. One way to help end child labor is by building better schools in Africa that provide supplies and smaller class sizes, such as the Schools for Africa program starting in Madagascar with a cost of $31,000 per school.

The Malawi Orphan Care Trust Fund assists orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi to access secondary and tertiary education. It also enables communities to set up orphan care and youth training centers. The organization is run by a committee of trustees and led by a volunteer in Malawi. Donations can help fund a child's school fees for a term or help a community care for orphans through education and training programs. The document emphasizes that education is the key to helping children escape poverty in Malawi.

Friends of Columbus Children distributes free diapers to low income families in Central Ohio through existing service providers, including local food pantries, soup kitchens, daycare centers, social service agencies and shelters thru our Happy Babies Diaper Bank program.
Mission:To ensure that families living in poverty have an adequate supply of diapers for their infants and toddlers.
To create a lasting impact, the Happy Babies Diaper Bank a program of Friends of Columbus Children intends to raise community awareness that "basic human necessities" are not being met for our community's most vulnerable-our babies.

Diarrhea is the second biggest killer of children under 5 globally, and kills more children in Sub-Saharan Africa than malaria, measles, and HIV/AIDS combined. WASH United uses games and interactive activities led by role models to change behaviors and increase access to sanitation and hygiene in schools, communities, and through youth sports teams. Their approach has trained over 100,000 children and youth and 400 schools and clubs since 2010. WASH United is working to expand this approach to more sports for development organizations.

GHS provides translation services in Kansas City and funds 3 elementary schools in rural northwest Haiti with over 200 students. The schools pay teacher salaries from funds raised by GHS. A 2014 trip by GHS found communities grateful for education provided and identified needs like water access. GHS hopes to increase sustainability and community involvement in education in Haiti.

Literacy is the ability to read and write. It is a challenge for low-income families in Singapore to get their children to attend preschool regularly due to higher absenteeism rates, and a lack of exposure to English at home puts children at a disadvantage for learning. Additionally, around 13,000 students in Singapore, or 2.7% of the student population, have dyslexia or other learning disabilities. Since 2014, ReadAble has been providing weekly reading and language classes for children ages 2 to 15, and has built a community library with over 1,000 books. For preschoolers ages 2 to 6, ReadAble focuses on language acquisition and introducing phonics through play-based learning to prepare them

Children of Haiti Project 2015 Annual Report
The Children of Haiti Project (COHP) is a nonprofit that provides education, nutrition, health care, and housing to over 85 underserved children in Haiti with the goal of developing future leaders. Since 2010, COHP has helped children thrive academically and personally despite challenges. In 2015, COHP expanded facilities, added new programs, and saw continued success in students' education, health, and social development, though financial sustainability remains a challenge. COHP aims to raise significant annual funds to maintain operations and support Haiti's youth.

The Hopeland Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Homa Bay County, Kenya that focuses on supporting orphans, disadvantaged children, education, the environment, youth, and women. It was established in 2011. The foundation runs an education center for over 50 students, supports disabled children's education, conducts environmental conservation projects, offers vocational training and job opportunities for youth, and empowers women through counseling, skills training, and future plans for a microloan program. Going forward, Hopeland aims to improve infrastructure at the education center, acquire more educational resources, expand vocational training programs, start a school feeding initiative, build a children's home, and collaborate with other organizations.

Honduras Hope, a 501c3 non-profit based in NH and Honduras, is requesting funding to integrate the AVANCE early childhood education curriculum into their existing kindergarten programs in two rural Honduran communities. Honduras Hope has been operating for 13 years, providing a range of services including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and economic opportunities. Their kindergarten programs currently lack a standardized curriculum. Integrating AVANCE is expected to strengthen family engagement and early learning, improving long-term educational outcomes for children in the communities.

- 1. Educate Haitian Children. The core aim of this initiative is to assist novice teachers to teach basic literacy and numeracy to children under 12 years of age in the developing world. It is hoped that this can be achieved in ten schools around the Gros Morne region in Haiti. The desired outcome is that all the children can read and write to an adequate level and do basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction and multiplication). The target audience are illiterate children under 12 years of age living in the hills and small villages outside the town of Gonaives, Haiti. The children are highly motivated to learn, but are severely constrained by the lack of resources. The are some make-shift classrooms, parents must pay the teacher’s meager wages, but are only able to do so if the children are given some food during the school day. Currently the charity Food For The Poor are the lynchpin this keeping this fragile system operating. Donations from other charities periodically provide copybooks and pencils for the students. There is little or no infrastructure, poor sanitation, no running water, electricity is very limited in the region, as is access to teaching materials. Education is currently only available to those who can afford to pay for it, which is only a small minority of the population. This must change in order to meet the commitment enshrined in the Millennium Development Goals, of the right to all children to an education. An opportunity has emerged by the recent investment by DigiCel in the regions mobile phone sector, which could be leveraged to assist with this educational challenge.
