Insbesondere in sozialen Netzwerken werden neue Kommunikationsstrategien benötigt, um dem direkten Austausch mit Bezugsgruppen gerecht zu werden. Während Unternehmens-Webseiten bereits vielfach untersucht worden sind, liegen zu Facebook-Fanpages nur wenige Daten vor. Die vorliegende Studie möchte diese Forschungslücke schließen und bietet einen umfassenderen Überblick über den Einsatz der Kommunikationsstrategien zur Beziehungspflege, Unternehmensdarstellung und Marktforschung auf Facebook. Über ein Mehrmethoden-Design wird einerseits die Relevanz der Strategien für Unternehmen erfasst und anderseits deren tatsächlicher Einsatz auf Facebook gemessen. Dazu wurde eine quantitative Inhaltsanalyse der Facebook-Fanpages führender in Deutschland tätiger Unternehmen (Manager Magazin Image Ranking 2012) durchgeführt (n = 70) und mit einer daraus gezogenen quotierten Stichprobe (n = 21) qualitative Leitfadeninterviews durchgeführt.
Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass nicht alle Faktoren und Strategien für die Akteure von Bedeutung sind: Während dem Dialog eine hohe Bedeutung beigemessen wurde, spielt die Darstellung der Unternehmen als Innovator und Experte sowie das Engagement im Bereich der CSR nur eine geringe Rolle. Auch Möglichkeit zur Marktforschung wurde nur von einem Teil der befragten Verantwortlichen als wichtig erachtet. Die tatsächliche Umsetzung der Strategien auf Facebook zeigt noch einmal ein anderes Bild. Obwohl der Dialog von der Mehrheit der Unternehmen als wichtiges Ziel genannt wurde, erreichen die Fanpages nur 3,9 Punkte (Index: 0-12). Die Darstellung der Expertise und der CSR fand mit 4,6 bzw. 3,6 Punkten (Index: 0-18) ebenfalls nur auf einem niedrigen Niveau statt.
