outh India is known to travellers across the
globe for its distinctive culture and natural
beauty. The cities in this region are home to
marvellous architecture and a diverse variety of flora
and fauna.
Bengaluru, dotted with beautiful gardens, architectural
marvels, and amazing bazaars, is aptly called the
Garden City of India. Further, with the highest
percentage of engineers on the planet and with more
than 200 IT companies, the city has also earned the
title, Silicon Valley of India.
After Bengaluru, Mysuru is the second-fastest
growing city in Karnataka. It is also the cultural capital
of the state. Known as the Palace City of India, Mysuru
leaves the traveller spellbound with its quaint charm
and majestic palaces. After Taj Mahal, Mysuru Palace
is the second-most visited travel attraction of the
country and gets nearly 2.7 million visitors each year.
Finally, on our journey, we went far from the bustling
cities to Ooty, which is one of the most prominent hill
stations in the state. Ooty has lush green landscapes
and tea plantations that are surrounded by the Nilgiri
Hills, offering an unparalleled view. Also, Ooty is
known as the Scotland of the East.

OUR
JOURNEY
Our journey to Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Ooty was long
and stressful, but a fun-filled experience. We were
excited to visit various places of tourist interest. In
Mysuru, we visited the Brindavan Gardens and Krishna
Raja Sagara Dam. At the Brindavan Gardens, we saw a
light and sound show, which was really amazing. Later,
we visited the Mysuru Palace, where we saw several
portraits of kings and queens.
From Mysuru, we went to Ooty and visited several places,
including the Ooty Lake complex, the Government
Botanical Garden, and a tea garden. At Ooty Lake, we
enjoyed a number of rides. The Government Botanical
Garden was established to initiate the cultivation and
preservation of a wide range of plants that are displayed
there. The plants have been labelled with their botanical
names. When we returned to our hotel, a DJ party with
bonfire was organised for us. Attending the party was
an awesome experience as we had a lot of fun.
Next day, we travelled to Bengaluru, where we visited the
Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum. The
museum was enormous and had a wide collection of
tools. On the last day of our trip, we visited the Lalbagh
Botanical Garden, where we walked around the lake,
climbed some rocky mountains, and treated ourselves
with ice-cream. We also went to Tipu Sultan’s Summer
Palace to see his wealthy belongings being displayed
there. Last but not the least, we shopped at Orion
Mall along with our friends. Our trip was altogether a
wonderful experience.

Our trip began in the beautiful city of Mysuru. We went
to visit the Mysuru Palace that is located in the heart of
the city. Later, we went to a mall for shopping. We also
visited the Brindavan Gardens. Our next stop was Ooty
where we enjoyed boating in the lake. We also visited a
tea garden in Ooty.
Among all the places that we visited, our favourite
destination was Bengaluru. A few days were not
sufficient to cover all the major places in the ‘Silicon
Valley of India’. The main attractions of this vibrant city
were the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, the Visvesvaraya
Industrial & Technological Museum, and Tipu Sultan’s
Summer Palace. The Lalbagh Botanical Garden was not
only beautiful but also well-maintained. The garden was
free of any pollutants. We also visited Orion Mall, which
was a relatively large mall with a man-made lake inside
it. We shopped a lot from the stores at the mall. We also
went to some street-shops in Bengaluru, which were
quite fascinating.
Overall, our trip was very nice. The hotels where we
stayed were comfortable and the food provided was
delicious. The bus facilities provided were very clean.
Our teachers took good care of us. During this trip, we
learnt to wake up and sleep on time, work together as a
team, and become independent.

M
ysuru is also known as the City of Palaces. It
is the third-most populous city in Karnataka.
It is the cultural capital of the state and has
also been coined as the cleanest city of India. Mysuru
is situated about 145 km from Bengaluru and the city
covers an area of 152 sq km.
Mysuru is famous for its marvellous architecture and
palaces. Mysuru Palace was the official residence
of the royal family — descendants of the Wodeyar
Dynasty. The palace is built of stone and its domes
are made of marble. It is a blend of Hindu, Mughal, and
Gothic styles of architecture.
Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens or Mysuru
Zoo was established in 1892. Named after the founder,
Maharaja Shri Chamarajendra Wodeyar, the zoo was
initially known as Palace Zoo. Today, it is one of the
biggest and oldest zoos in India. It is home to a variety
of animals that have been brought from various parts
of the world. The other location that Mysuru offers for
enjoying its lush greenery is the Brindavan Gardens
— built across the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam — and it
is a must-visit place in Mysuru. The most popular
attraction of the place is the magical fountain show
scheduled in the evenings.
Mysuru is blessed with ample natural beauty and the
architectural marvels of the place add to its charm.

Our educational trip to Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Ooty was
a fascinating experience. After reaching the airport in
Bengaluru, we took a bus to Mysuru. Our journey was
long and tiring, but we really enjoyed it.
In Mysuru, we visited the Brindavan Gardens where we
enjoyed watching the light and sound show along with
our friends. We took many photographs there. Then,
we went to Mysuru Palace, where we learnt about the
history of Wodeyar Dynasty that ruled in this region
for centuries. The palace was originally built several
centuries ago, which houses many paintings depicting
the rule of the Wodeyars. We saw portraits of famous
kings, queens, and other members of the royal family.
The following day, we went to Forum City Centre Mall.
We also spent two days in Ooty where we visited Ooty
Lake and a tea garden. On the last days of our journey,
we went to visit a few places of tourist interest in
Bengaluru. We were impressed to see the majestic Tipu
Sultan’s Summer Palace and the Visvesvaraya Industrial
& Technological Museum.
During the trip, we created some wonderful memories.
Our teachers were very cooperative and understanding.
The trip made us aware of our inner capabilities. It also
taught us the values of hard work, honesty, discipline,

oty or Udhagamandalam, known as the
Scotland of the East, is a beautiful city nestled
in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. It is a very
important tourist destination and home to some of the
most breathtaking tea estates in India.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway provides a delightful
ride to reach Ooty. The Nilgiri Mountain Toy Train
has a metre-gauge track. The trains run at an average
speed of 10 kmph. This allows the tourists to enjoy the
picturesque beauty of the place at a mellow pace. This
train network was declared a UNESCO World Heritage
Site in 2015.
The weather in Ooty is pleasant throughout the year.
With each changing season, the city shows different
shades of beauty making it picturesque.
Other than being a famous tourist destination for
homemade chocolates, Ooty is a haven for tea lovers.
The Dodabetta Tea Museum offers splendid insights
into the processing of tea leaves and tea-making
methods. The view of lush green tea gardens makes
the experience even more refreshing and rejuvenating.
Another exciting place to visit is the Wax World
Museum, which houses life-size statues of the legends
of India.

Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, is a hill station
situated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is spread over
an area of about 36 sq km. Ooty is widely popular for
its flourishing tea industry. The hilly slopes of Ooty are
covered with tea plantations. This place is also known for
the Nilgiri Mountain Railway or the toy train.
Ooty Lake is an artificial lake spread over an area of 65
acres. It was created by John Sullivan, a British civil
servant, in 1824. The boathouse situated by the lake is a
major tourist attraction. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting
Ooty Lake by engaging in several recreational activities.
In Ooty, we also visited the Government Botanical Garden.
It was laid out in 1848 by the Marquis of Tweedale. It is
maintained by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.
The garden covers an area of around 55 hectares and lies
on the lower slope of Doddabetta Peak. The garden has a
terraced layout.

engaluru has many green patches. The Lalbagh
Botanical Garden acts as lungs for the city. The
Garden provides the perfect blend of nature
and history. There are a wide variety of exotic and
tropical plants and even a tree fossil which is nearly
20 million years old.
Interestingly, we get a similar glimpse of combination
of history and biological diversity at the Mysuru Zoo.
The zoo is over 125 years old and houses around
1450 species of animals and birds, which have been
brought over from more than 40 other countries. The
zoo gets two million visitors from all corners of the
world every year.
The other globally renowned attraction in Mysuru is
the Brindavan Gardens. The lush spreads of grass,
shrubs, trees, and flowers, make the place a treat for
the senses. The Brindavan Gardens is also home to
one of the largest terrace gardens of India.
Lastly, we head to Ooty. The Botanical Garden in
Ooty is a paradise for nature lovers. It has a variety
of herbal, bonsai, and flowering plants along with
fruit trees. They have a section dedicated solely to
medicinal plants as well. Each section of the garden
is trimmed beautifully that makes for a delightful sight.

In this era of advanced technology, humans spend
more time on gadgets than in the natural surroundings.
During our journey, we visited several beautiful places
situated in the southern part of India. The Brindavan
Gardens in Mysuru is a beautiful terrace garden famous
for its symmetric designs. The garden is enriched with
fountains, water channels, and lush green lawns. We
enjoyed listening to Hindi film songs during the musical
fountain show.
The charming hill station of Ooty provides a perfect
escape plan during the harrowing summer months. Ooty
is home to diverse species of animals and birds because
it is surrounded by forests. Ooty Lake is a popular place
of visit. At Ooty Lake complex, we took part in a number
of exciting activities such as boating. We also visited the
Government Botanical Garden along with a tea garden
where we clicked many pictures. We enjoyed the pleasant
weather of Ooty and spent a great time along with our
friends.
