teaching the average
student.
However, educators
soon realized there is
no such thing as an
“average student”
because all students
are unique.
Therefore, the teaching
method of Universal
Design was adopted.
 Universal Design is a way of teaching that

includes English Language Learners,
struggling students, and gifted students.

 Universal Design allows for education that is

flexible, offers different pathways, and
encourages presenting information in
diverse ways.
3 main principles:
 HOW WE PRESENT THE INFORMATION WITH

MULTIPLE FORMS OF REPRESENTATION…

 USING MULTIPLE MEANS OF ACTION AND

EXPRESSION BECAUSE ALL STUDENTS VARY.

 MULTIPLE WAYS OF ENGAGEMENT…
Your Future Classroom
 By using the Universal Design of Instruction,

your classroom will be fun and inviting to all
your students. The most important reason
behind this teaching method is to include
every student in your room, and that
includes you! Everyday will be a new
mystery and a new challenge, but both you
and your students will grow.
