EDITING CHECKLIST
To edit your work means you will check your writing for errors.
Fix all errors you find using your red pen.

1. Point to each word and circle the words that don't look right. See if you
can find them in the dictionary or in the classroom somewhere.

                   went
                 I wint to school.

2. Underline the first word in each sentence. Check to see that it starts with a
capital letter. If it doesn’t, change it to a capital letter.

            W
we had fun on the first day of school.

3. Circle the period, question mark, or exclamation point at the
end of each sentence. Make sure you used the right end mark. If not,
change it. If you forgot one, add the correct one.

Did you have fun at school. ?

4. Circle the space where you indented each paragraph. If you forgot to
indent, put a circle where you should have indented.

Today was the first day of school. We
had fun. We learned a lot and made new friends.

My new school is mayberry elementary.

6. Read your story sentence by sentence. Stop at each endmark.
Do your sentences make sense? Circle any incomplete sentences or
sentences that do not make sense. Correct them.

I can’t wait to go back to school tomorrow.
