Ethiopia is facing a severe food crisis due to the worst drought in 60 years affecting the Horn of Africa region since mid-July 2011. Rain failure is the main reason for Ethiopia's crisis, causing drought and dead plants which leads to starving humans and animals. The crisis began in 2006 and could become worse than the 1984-85 famine if it continues. Ethiopia has poor resources and relies on aid from other countries. International organizations like WFP and OXFAM want to help Ethiopia by providing food and water in the short term, but the problem can only be fully fixed if rain comes again next year.
