Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition caused by other diseases, irritating substances, allergies, and genetics. It most commonly affects children under three years old but can impact anyone, especially those with a family history of asthma or hay fever. Symptoms include oozing blisters, dry and leathery skin areas, intense itching, and rashes, which can sometimes lead to bacterial skin infections or scarring if not properly treated. Treatments involve soothing moisturizers, mild soaps, wet dressings, anti-itch lotions, and topical corticosteroids.
