COLD ASPHALTIC CONCRETE
ECOLVIA
Natural maintenance
key
Benefits
Excellent workability
Excellent water resistance
No dust or fume emissions
Reduced energy costs
Environmentally friendly cold materials
key
figures
The use of cold asphaltic concrete in pavement surface courses calls for specific emulsion
formulations and for suitable production and laying processes.
Eurovia has developed environmentally friendly pavement maintenance techniques based on
cold materials. This expertise has given rise to an exclusive, highly effective process: Ecolvia.

ACROSS THE BOARD
EFFICiency
Ecolvia, a cold asphaltic concrete for surface course
maintenance, is produced cost-effectively in a cold
mixing plant. It generates no dust or fumes and is
particularly environmentally friendly.
Eurovia has special, very compact and mobile
mixing plants suitable for all types of project.
The excellent workability of Ecolvia offers
substantial flexibility in use and the product can
be laid by paver, grader or manually. The mix is
compacted with a smooth roller or a PTR.
The pavement can be re-trafficked after elimination
of the emulsion breaking water and curing of
the mix. The time required depends on weather
conditions and traffic level.
OUTSTANDING
versatility
Ecolvia is used to maintain roads with moderate
traffic requiring restoration of skid resistance
characteristics.
It is applied as a surface course in a layer generally
ranging between 40 and 80 mm.
Ecolvia is equally effective when used for
reprofiling, smoothing, truing and levelling and edge
maintenance.
Pavement
renewal
Ecolvia is made up of a dense-graded skeleton -
generally 0/10 mm but sometimes 0/6 or 0/14 -
coated with a pure bitumen emulsion with an adapted
formulation.
Aggregates are derived from solid rock or alluvial
deposits depending on traffic and the conditions
in which the mix is used. They are selected in
accordance with the EN 13043 Aggregates for
hydrocarbon mixes standard.
The binder is a cationic bitumen emulsion that can be
produced in any of Eurovia’s binder plants.
The characteristics of the components of Ecolvia as
well as the formulation of the mix ensure that the
material is fully coated. Voids content ranges from 6 to
12% depending on the formulation selected.
The mix offers excellent water resistance, eliminating
the risk of binder stripping. The good cohesion of the
material ensures that aggregates are not stripped or
plated.
Suitable formulation ensures compliance with the
requirements of the P 98-139 Surface courses: cold
asphaltic concretes standard.
