This document lists common types of earthworms found in New Zealand and identifies the soil layer where each type is typically found - dung worms, tiger worms, bark worms and snake worms are found in dung or litter layers at the soil surface, while southern worms, green worms, yellow tails and grey worms inhabit topsoil layers, and nightcrawlers and blackhead worms reside in deeper soil layers.
