Origin and Structure of the Earth – THE SUBSYSTEM
MELC: Explain that the Earth consists of four subsystems,
across who’s boundaries matter and energy flow
Activity 1: Listening to the Earth’s Sound
1. Place yourself in a comfortable position.
2. Close your eyes and clear your minds.
3. Inhale. Exhale.
4. Listen to sound that earth has to give. Relax.
What sounds have you heard?
Earth is compose of things and organisms that can be
identified to belong to the following classification
Air Water Land With Life
San Lorenzo Wind Farm
San Lorenzo, Guimaras
It has 27 wind turbines
generating 54 MW,
considered as the biggest
wind farm in Southeast Asia
Bugsukan Falls
Brgy. Dalije, Miag-ao, Iloilo
Banaue Rice Terraces
Carved largely by hands into
the mountains of Banaue,
Ifugao by the Igorot Ancestors

The EARTH’s SUBSYSTEM
Cryosphere
Atmosphere
Hydrospehere
Biosphere
Geosphere
The gaseous layer above the Earth’s
surface primarily composed of different
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen.
The water part of the Earth that
includes oceans and glaciers.
The zone of the Earth where all forms of
life exist. This serves as the ecosystem of
all living and non- living organisms.
The solid part of the Earth that consists the entire
planet from the center of the core to the outer crust.
It includes core, mantle, and crust of the Earth.
The ATMOSPHERE
• Gaseous layer above the
Earth’s Surface
• 78% N and 21 % O
• 1 % other gases
(Ar, CO, 𝑪𝑶𝟐, 𝑶𝟑)
• It regulates climate
• Air acts as blanket and
filter, retaining heat at
night and shielding from
direct solar radiation
during the day.
The BIOSPHERE
• It is where all life forms
exists: in the sea, land
and water
• Called as the “Large
Ecosystem”
• The zone where life
inhabits
• Biosphere is a very thin
layer of the planet Earth
The GEOSPHERE
• The solid Earth
The HYDROPHERE
• The water part of
the Earth: oceans,
continents,
glaciers and
atmosphere.
• Oceans cover 71%
of the Earth and
contain 97.5% of
its water
