It hunts from a perch, using its excellent vision to spot prey from over a mile away, then swoops down and grabs prey with its talons. Bald eagles are powerful fliers and swimmers, and can soar for hours without flapping their wings. They have a wingspan of up to 8 feet and can live 20-40 years in the wild.
Bald eagles have brown, black, and white feathers with a yellow curved beak and strong talons. They are 30 inches long with a 7-foot wing span. Bald eagles live in woodlands in Central America and build nests in trees, laying 1-3 eggs that hatch in 6 weeks. They eat fish, rabbits, and squirrels using their talons and live 20-40 years in the wild, though humans destroying habitats and occasional predators threaten them. Bald eagles are not truly bald but have white feathers on their heads and are a symbol of the United States with hollow bones.
This document discusses facts about bald eagles, including their prey, physical characteristics, life cycle, threats, and conservation efforts. Bald eagles were endangered in 1967 due to habitat destruction and hunting, but are no longer endangered due to protection laws. At first there was a bald eagle toy. One magical night it came to life and began to move. So it went to the land that is filled with eagles. It had fun in the eagle land. Then it laid 3 eggs. After 1 month was over, the eggs began to hatch. But they were not real eagles. They didn’t cry like eagles. They don’t look brown like eagles. They didn’t fly like eagles. They couldn’t catch fish, mice or anything that eagles can catch to eat. A real eagle came and they laid more eggs. Then a lot of eggs crashed to the floor. Only one egg was not crushed. So they put the egg in their nest. One month later, the egg began to hatch. It was a real Bald Eagle. They were very happy. So they lived happy together forever. Did you learn that eagles lay up to three eggs? Most people know that adult Bald Eagles are brown with white heads but did you know that baby Bald Eagles are dark brown. Eagles eat fish among other things. Bald Eagle eggs take about 35 days or just over one month to hatch. Sara Grade 1 Ms. Hathway’s Class Robby Grade 1 Ms. Hathway’s Class
