The eagle has the longest lifespan of its species but must undergo a difficult process of change as it ages. When it reaches its 40s, its talons and beak become unusable and its wings too heavy to fly. The eagle then has to fly to a mountain top and spend 150 days regenerating itself by breaking its beak against rocks, allowing a new one to grow, and plucking its talons and feathers to be replaced. After this process, the eagle can live for another 30 years.
