I wish you an abundant life!
Best wishes... Neville
1.If someone abuses you, how does it make you feel? And, if
you abuse them how might they feel? Does it matter
whether you know them or they know you or not? While I'm
not recommending that you be inattentive when driving: it
doesn't matter if you don't know them. I knew a fellow years
ago who used to admit that his thoughts wandered while he
drove. Angry motorists would shake their fists at him and call
out all kinds of abuse when he'd do something unthinkingly
stupid to cut them off in traffic. His approach was: "They
must know me!" So he'd wave back and smile broadly. It's
amazing how it calmed people. As Selina says: what happens
to us is 3% of the story ... 97% is our re-action!
You Really Don't Know
The Person Near You
2.The person might be sitting opposite you or next to
you right now. They might be a "stranger" or
occasional acquaintance. They might be your spouse
or life-partner. But, you don't really know them when
they are in the depths of their own mind. If you need
their co-operation to achieve some goal, then you will
be able to do so only through connecting with them at
a point they understand and at which they trust you
enough to let you connect. That connection is critical
to enhance productivity between you. Power plays are
not adequate to achieve effective co-operation or
collaboration between you.

Happiness is a
Choice
3.There is clear research evidence from "laughing
groups" that happiness is improved by being
happy. The right kinds of chemicals are released
into the bloodstream enhancing the feeling of
well-being. Have you ever tried to deal with a
person who acts like a dog with its tail between
its legs? Have you ever seen people who walk
around stooped with their head hanging down
like the full weight of the world is on their
shoulders: and they don't have Herculean
shoulders? Have you ever met people who can't
seem to smile - people, who like an older relative
used to describe, as someone who had a face
that would gap an axe! Believe it or not, the
evidence shows it easier to smile than to frown.
Imagine the power you can have to get someone
to work with you just through smiling.
4.You have to be able to identify the real from the
superficial. To work productively in your job or for
yourself in business, you have to be able to identify
integrity that leads to commitment between you as to
what has been agreed. The French military historian
Colonel Ardant du Picq wrote: "Four brave men who do
not know each other well will not dare attack a lion.
Four less brave, but knowing each other well, sure of
their reliability and consequently of mutual aid, will
attack resolutely. There is the science of organization of
armies in a nutshell." The development of such trust
takes time and human connection.
Categorization
5.It's easier to deal with categories than with people!
"Oh he/she's just like so-and-so!" you will often hear
people say. "He/she is just a cleaner.. shop assistant..
from the wrong area..." and on and on we go putting
people into categories. It makes it easier to "deal with
them", so we believe, especially if we don't like them.
But, if we need their help, their co-operation, their
collaboration in something we want or have to do:
categorization does not help our cause. Find "the
person" – find "the connection to that person" –
because at times we can be amazed what we will find
and what they can do with the right connection.
Economic Fodder
6.During anti-Napoleonic debates the French writer Chateaubriand (1814)
criticized the cynical attitude of the times where conscripts were treated
as "the raw material" or "cannon fodder". Similar concepts date to the
16th century, including those in Shakespeare's play Henry IV. Many
corporate publications proclaim that "Our people are our greatest asset".
Regrettably, few organisations follow that through into reality. Too often,
organisations try to follow short-cut methods to improve productivity
and find that in the longer-term they have not been successful because
it's not an holistic effort. So, every time I see Human Resources or
Human Capital referenced, I think of the Economic Fodder Department.
Unfortunately, that's what it often becomes when organisations
categorize their allegedly greatest asset! But, those departments still
have people in them; and one needs to try to connect with them. How
do you think of people who work in your business or organisation?
Demythologize:
Knowledge is Power
7.To be more productive, people need to question many of the cliches that
they've been fed as they grew up. Knowledge is not power, it has never
been power and never will be power. Knowledge has the potential to
allow people to gain power: but, it's only a potential. Knowledge put into
action constitutes power. What do you know that you could put into
action to help you develop your dreams and achieve the life of
abundance that you desire? What could you learn to improve your
situation and that of those you love? How could you help others to come
on the journey with you: as we cannot achieve things alone?
