While 5G and fiber networks will overlap in some geographical areas, they are largely complementary technologies as 5G will not be able to compete with fiber's capabilities. Rapid infrastructure investments will be needed to attract new industries to 5G and deploy it widely, though it is not expected to surpass 700 million subscribers until 2022-2023. By 2025, over 1.6 billion people globally are forecasted to subscribe to 5G networks, with Asia making up over half of those subscribers.
