Reducing services latency is pushing centralized computing power back to the edge of the network, and in this paradigm telecommunication companies are well position to fill the gap. Telefónica is utilizing open-source OpenNebula and ON.Lab's ONOS and CORD to prototype a new generation of Central Offices that are fully IPv6 compliant and allows for the deployment of programmable services rather than the traditional black box solutions provided by proprietary solutions.
While the need for network automation is becoming a key part of the overall digital transformation agenda, the reality is that the success rate behind previous attempts to drive network automation (a.k.a NFV) is only at about 30%, where the statistics show that 70% of transformation projects fail!

Edge Computing: A Unified Infrastructure for all the Different PiecesCloudify Community
Edge Computing along with 5G promises to revolutionize customer experience with immersive applications that we can only imagine at this point. The edge will include PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications; requiring containers, virtual machines and bare-metal compute. But while edge computing promises numerous new revenue streams, managing and orchestrating these edge infrastructure environments is not going to be a seamless, instant process. In this webinar, experts in NFV orchestration discuss the concerns you must address in the transition to the edge, and show how you can use available open source tools to create a single management environment for PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications.

Today, the model of hybrid cloud comes under the eyes of a lot of organizations. The idea of combining resources of public cloud providers with private depending on the terms of execution, the need of more resources, an extra protection of the data, more or less security in services with sensitive information, etc. are some of the capabilities that this model has to answer. The case of CSUC, acting as cloud provider and at the same time as user of external IaaS and PaaS services, is analyzed sharing its first experiences in the way to archive a real multicloud architecture to provide services for catalan universities and research institutions.

Emerging Trends in Hybrid-Cloud & Multi-Cloud StrategiesChaitanya Atreya
As Cloud Computing rapidly evolves, newer deployment strategies such as Hybrid-Cloud, Multi-Cloud and On-Prem Cloud are emerging. More and more enterprise solution providers are offering support for a combination of these deployment targets. It is imperative that the larger organizations have a clear Hybrid-Cloud and Multi-Cloud strategy to avoid cloud lock-in and to de-risk business decisions.
What do each of these terminologies mean? What is the scope of each and overlap if any? We will discuss the emerging best-practices across these interdisciplinary trends, especially in the context of Modern Data and Analytics Platforms and Enterprise Self-Service.

Extensible and Standard-based XaaS Platform To Manage Everything in The Cloud...OCCIware
Who uses multi cloud today ? Everybody. Docker AND VMs, scaling internally AND bursting to Amazon, storing on a public cloud except for data legally required to stay within the country: different solutions for different needs, but more often than not used at the same time. Alas, this leads to a "noodle plate" architecture where a lot of "technical glue" with the various, incompatible clouds creeps in and makes it impossible to evolve.
To solve this problem, the OCCIware project builds on the Open Cloud Computing (OCCI) standard's unified, uniform architectural approach and provides a platform to manage all layers and domains of the Cloud (XaaS), with two main components: the OCCIware Studio Factory and Runtime. Cloud Control Access: From Hack to RealityAlan Quayle
Laura Chirca – NEURER BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
We’ve seen several IoT based door access control hacks over the years at TADHack. INOVO is making this a commercial reality for its customers in Romania and beyond. It’s a great example of the migration from hack to business, and the power of the democratization in telecoms enabling people to create solutions for their customers that fit their specific local needs. The Cloud Control Access System opens doors with cards, codes, phones, and SMS. The prototype starts with physical door controllers (the first release is Arduino-based), then migrates to intermediate building proxies that hold the customers’ database in case the internet goes down (a reality most businesses face several times a year) and them migrating to a scalable cloud authentication and portal layer.

#OSSPARIS19 : The evolving (IoT) security landscape - Gianluca Varisco, ArduinoParis Open Source Summit
IoT is at the peak of the hype cycle - what they call the 'Peak of Inflated Expectations’. The complexity of the cybersecurity landscape is at an all-time high, with security researchers, vendors and even governments all trying to come to a consensus for making the cyber-world a safer place. In this world of lightning-fast development cycles, it may intuitively feel like security gets left behind. The battle over standards is always a struggle. The unresolved problem of software updates and short vendor support cycle combined with the lack of effort into security makes these devices an easy target. Companies not only need to update their technology stack for the evolving security landscape but also their mindset, processes and culture. This talk will shine a light on some of the challenges that today’s executives face in finding and fixing systemic problems in and outside of security through people, tools and understanding.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

5. A quick question...
Who uses multi cloud today ?
… everybody
●
Docker in devops, and Kubernetes in
production
●
AWS, except when its Service – Task model
of scalability is not fine enough
●
National clouds to ensure data jurisdiction
●
… as soon as appears in your application a
new need that calls for a cheaper / faster /
more robust / more scalable / ... Cloud
7. Why OCCI ?
• So this makes for partitioning, lock-in...
• And a lot of technical glue, therefore
making it all hard to maintain
• The OCCI standard advocates a unified,
uniform architectural approach
- to separate this glue (connectors)
- from business logic consuming them
through the standard, generic OCCI REST
HTTP API
• ... the rise of the Cloud consumer platform
