» See in black, white and shades of grey.
» Tell us the shape that something has.
» They detect movement first.
» They are super-sensitive, allowing us to
see when it’s very dark.

» Work best in bright daylight.
» They allow people to see colours and fine detail.
» Cones are divided into three different types – red, green
and blue to help you see different ranges of colour.
» Together these cones sense combinations of light waves
that enable our eyes to see millions of colours.
