The document discusses Honda's VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) engine technology. VTEC uses two camshaft profiles and electronically selects between them to improve engine volumetric efficiency. It was invented by Honda engineer Ikuo Kajitani and introduced in the 1980s. The basic mechanism uses a hydraulically actuated pin to switch between camshaft lobes. VTEC provides better fuel efficiency, torque, and power while lowering emissions.
Ducati first made motorbikes in Italy, with their first model being the Cucciolo in the 1950s. They are an iconic Italian motorcycle brand known for high-performance sport bikes. The short document provides a brief history on the origins and first model of Ducati motorcycles.
The article introduces the new Ducati 1199 Superleggera, a limited edition motorcycle that pushes the boundaries of lightness and performance. Key details include:
- It has over 200 horsepower and weighs only 166 kg ready-to-ride, achieving the best power-to-weight ratio of any production bike.
- Extensive use of lightweight materials like magnesium, carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium helped reduce weight in areas like the monocoque frame, rear subframe, wheels and exhaust system.
- The engine was derived from the 1199 Panigale but with modifications like a two-ring piston, titanium valves and crankshaft inserts to increase power and reduce weight and inertia
The valve timing of modern automobiles are not constant. It varies with speed, load. Here this slide describes about the modern Variable Valve Timing system and their controls

It works by using two camshaft profiles and electronically selecting between them to improve engine efficiency. The basic mechanism uses a hydraulically actuated pin to switch between cam lobes. At low speeds it uses a low-lift cam profile for efficiency, switching to a high-lift profile for more power at higher speeds. i-VTEC provides benefits like better fuel efficiency and torque but also has limitations like increased costs and complexity.

2. A metà del secondo conflitto
mondiale, un progettista di
nome Aldo Farinelli sviluppò
un prototipo di motore
ausiliario da montare su una
bicicletta: il Cucciolo.
Il progetto di Farinelli
presentava numerosi
vantaggi rispetto alla
concorrenza, in particolare il
ciclo a quattro tempi e il
cambio a due marce che
sfruttava appieno la potenza
del motore.
3. FUNZIONAMENTE DISTRIBUZIONE
DESMODROMICA
braccetti (bilancieri), collegati
all'albero a camme, che presenta
oltre alla solita camma a forma di
ovulo la camma complementare,
comandando la valvola sia in
apertura che in chiusura.
Il sistema attuale utilizza anche
una molla che agisce sul bilanciere
che chiude la valvola, in modo da
garantire la perfetta chiusura della
valvola a fungo.
4. FRIZIONE MULTIDISCO A SECCO
bloccata istantaneamente, ma gradualmente grazie all'attrito; similmente
moto monocilindriche a moto Bicilindriche.
supersportiva.
Era un monocilindrico quattro tempi di 550 cc,
aveva alesaggio di 100mm per una corsa di
70, rapporto di compressione 11,8: 1, quattro
valvole desmo, frizione a dischi multipli a
secco e sviluppava 75 cv a 10.500 giri. A
forma affusolata e aerodinamica.
