The Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor received a memorandum from the Language Movement Museum and Research Center requesting the introduction of the Bengali dating system alongside the English system for official purposes. This would help uphold indigenous culture, civilization, pride and heritage by implementing the spirit of the language movement. Representatives from the museum and Language Movement Memorial Trust met with the VC, Professor Dr. Arefin Siddique, to submit the memorandum. The VC congratulated the initiative and declared the university's full support to use Bengali in all official levels and consider their suggestions.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor received a memorandum from Language
movement museum and research center to uphold indigenous culture, civilization,
pride and heritage by implementing the consciousness of language movement through
introduction of Bengali dating system besides using English dating system in official
purpose, stated the press release.
Language movement museum and research center and Language movement memorial
trust have submitted the memorandum at the latter’s office on Sunday to the VC
Professor Dr. Arefin Siddique, states a press release.
Language warrior Justice Kazi Obadul Haq, Dr Jasim Uddin Ahmad, Prof. Mirza
Majharul Islam, Sabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, Rezaul Karim, M.R. Mahbub, executive
director of Language movement museum and research center, Dr. M. A. Muktadir,
general secretary of the trust, among others, were present in the event.
The VC Professor Dr. Arefin Siddique congratulated and welcomed such initiative.
“You had undertaken the language movement to flourish the use and implementation
of Bengali language usage in all the levels of the state and still struggling to achieve
such goal, I am obliged to you for the reason,” Dr. Arefin Siddique said.
“By expressing full support with your initiative, I am declaring that University of
Dhaka is in the leading position to use Bengali in all levels officially, we are
interested to allow your suggestions in our organization,” he also mentioned
The VC also added that we should choose our own mother language with privilege.
The father of the nation delivered his speech in Bangla at United Nation and
established the dignity of the Bengali language in the year 1974 internationally. By
adapting his visionary values people of Bangladesh have to sensitive towards the
legacy of the Bengali as a language, he added, said the press statement.
