This document discusses the design and implementation of an RFID system to improve performance for tracking runners in mass races. The system uses UHF RFID tags attached to runners' shoes to identify runners as they pass checkpoints, and the design was tested and evaluated at several large running events with hundreds of participants. The results showed the RFID system could accurately track runners and improve on obtaining finish times compared to previous methods.
