Make snack time fun with vegetable
and hummus Yummy Bugs!
EDIBLE BUG BITES
et your child help in
the kitchen. Starting at age 2,
children can assist with small
tasks like stirring batter,
mashing vegetables, sprinkling
seasonings, pouring dry and
liquid ingredients into bowls,
scrubbing potatoes, putting
silverware in the dishwasher,
and other tasks they may
express interest in. They'll
become more familiar with
foods and may be more
inclined to try new ones.
To make at home you will
need:
• 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
• 1 sweet pepper, seeds and veins
removed, thinly sliced
• 1/2 cup of grape tomatoes, cut
in half
• whole grain crackers
• store bought hummus
Step 1

Rinse the
Vegetables
Always
thoroughly rinse
fresh produce in
tap water.

Step 2

Prepare the Vegetables
Slice the vegetables in creative
ways. Cut the vegetables into
different sizes and shapes so
there are lots of options for the
bug pieces. *TIP*
Remove the seeds
and veins from
peppers to keep them
from being too spicy.

Step 3

Make Your Yummy Bug!
Spread the hummus onto the
crackers. Top the hummus
with your vegetables pieces.
Mix and match the sweet
peppers, cucumbers, and
tomatoes to make yummy bug
bites!
