I visited Jasmines family home of a quaint little town in west Yorkshire to get an insight of
her roots, I was welcomed with a gigantic hug from Jasmine in a oversized jumper and fluffy
socks, as if I were just visiting an old friend! We sat in her cosy cottage and sipped tea whilst
looking through pictures of her past as she passionately described to me previous family
holidays and birthdays; filling me in on the details of birthday mishaps and great adventures
that she has had with her two older brothers, mum and dad. It was at this point where I saw
a completely different side to Jasmine. She is not just a city girl - but well grounded and
down to earth. There is no surprise as to why she is adored by all of her fans, not to mention
her family and friends!
This architectural abode differed vastly from the modern and flashy condo that she lives in
now. The tall Tudor ceilings and old fashioned structure contrasts deeply to Jasmine’s glass
walls and 72 inch plasma TV in London. Jasmine describes that she “loves having (her) own
space to personalise to however (she) likes, making (her) entire flat suited to inspire (her)
music and life!” however she absolutely adores coming home and feeling like a normal
teenager with her family around the fireplace. “My parents definitely are the reason why
I’ve stayed grounded” Jasmine states as she clambers onto the couch and hands me a
blanket. I learn that growing up, Jasmine was always taught that “if you want something
then you have to work for it”, Jasmines parents ensured that the fun loving and edgy
teenager was always kept in line, and this didn’t change even after her sudden rise to
stardom! We also chat about how Jasmines parents were a great inspiration to her music
“it’s why my albums are all over the place, trust me! My parents love every style of music,
it’s exhausting” when growing up, jasmine would sing along to the music that her mum or
dad played in the car (according to whoever won the squabble of course). It was her parents
great variety in genre preference that made Jasmine the girl she is today, she listens to
anything and everything. However she prominently loves R&B which is her main staple in
her music albums and clothing choices as she describes it as “cool, it suits my personality
and well... it’s just me”
“I really don’t like those celebrities that let fame get to their big heads, like it is so annoying”
Jasmine says as she rolls her eyes. She informs me that it was quite tricky in the beginning
for her; she didn’t know who to trust, who her real friends were and who were just sticking
around for a second in the limelight. “I don’t want to be friends with celebrities” she
exhales, her thick mahogany hair swishes as she shakes her head. Jasmine wants friends
that completely understand her, in a way that fame hungry people wouldn’t, she states that
when she comes off stage and after meeting fans at meet and greets, it all gets a bit too
much and she just wants to kick back and relax and do normal teenage things. “Like have a
sleepover with my best girls, what could be better? Chocolate, gossip and hot actors!”
Jasmine talks about how that was her inspiration for her up and coming album ‘One’ “ I’m
taking it back to basics” Jasmine really wants to bring back who she is and show that to the
world. “I feel like I didn’t really get that through with my first album, I mean I love the music
I made but I’m ready to show everyone who I really am” Jasmines new album ‘One’ will be
released on April 1st 2015 (don’t miss it!) She discusses that this up and coming album has
many influences from everyday normal life; heart breaks, friendships and “just everything!”
“Having 2 brothers has given me an edge and a ‘not afraid to get my hands dirty’ attitude to
life, I want to do everything... scary things excite me!” I learn that since Jasmine was young,
she has always had a head on and life-loving attribute, she loves to enjoy every moment and
tries to take every opportunity that she is given. Jasmine tells me about her loving and
volatile relationship that she has with her brothers “one minute we’re outside play fighting
and the next we’re buying each other clothes” she likes it though, she proclaims that her
brothers have given her a great back bone and support system; she knows not to let anyone
mess with her and at the end of the day to appreciate everything you have before it’s gone.
Next jasmine shows us her old bedroom, but of course the first thing we did was look
straight into her wardrobe! “See I pretty much have the same style as I did a few years ago,
just it’s a bit more mature and 3 times the price” she laughs. She leaves me to rummage
through her closet, flicking through great amounts of crop tops, high waited jeans, dresses
and glitzy tops; picking out pieces I adore and even some that I absolutely hate! “That’s my
mother’s I swear” she shouts as I laugh and pick out a green woolly turtle neck jumper,
resembling something that I could imagine Lady Gaga wearing on laundry day.
On departing Jasmines beautiful home, I thought of how I had grown so close to her in just a
matter of hours and how I feel as if I have made a lifelong friend, she truly is a great girl and
the ‘MAGAZINENAME’ team absolutely love her. The great thing about jasmine is that she
has a great sense of humour, isn’t afraid to laugh at herself and certainly doesn’t take life
too seriously! Jasmine proves to be a great role model for young ladies everywhere; her
values and traits really are inspiring and refreshing in the current day music scene.
We can’t wait until Jasmine goes on tour and releases her new album this spring!
