The document discusses the feasibility of implementing joint radio resource management (JRRM) policies for heterogeneous wireless networks in real-time hardware. It proposes novel JRRM techniques based on linear programming and investigates their computational cost when implemented on digital signal processing platforms commonly used in mobile stations. The results demonstrate the potential for implementing the proposed JRRM algorithms in future heterogeneous wireless systems to coordinate radio resources across different radio access technologies.

The proposed technology can reduce network costs by allowing optimized use of radio resources in mobile wireless networks. The system provides reliable and high-capacity channels, while the wireless part allows user mobility. Solving the problem involves an attempt to determine an optimal distribution of radio resources to the RAUs (radio allocation unit) and network cells can be split or merged dynamically to optimize this distribution as a function of the fluctuation of demands.

The annual Black & Veatch Strategic Directions: Electric Industry Report explores progress made across the power generation and delivery sectors, with an eye toward their evolving landscapes. Over the last year, the sector has adapted to ongoing changes — the proliferation of renewable energy, a changing regulatory outlook and heightened focus on investment, infrastructure and regulation — all while navigating familiar but pressing challenges related to reliability and resilience.
The industry is charting its path forward by integrating advanced
technologies, accommodating growing amounts of distributed energy resources exploring the possibilities created by energy storage. To their benefit, electric utilities are increasingly embracing new technology, understanding that data is critical because it will allow them to prioritize efforts, commit funding and allocate resources in a strategic manner.
Reliance on coal-fired power generation continues to give way to inexpensive and abundant natural gas, as well as increasing amounts of renewable energy from solar and wind.
The 2017 Strategic Directions: Electric Industry Report examines how utility leaders are navigating these challenges — both old and new — and advancing for future growth. The report also addresses potential hurdles that may impede success.
Concerns persist over security, aging infrastructure, environmental regulation and the management of long-term
investments that will force utility leaders to innovate and meeting shifting customer demands.

A Vertical Handover Algorithm in Integrated Macrocell Femtocell Networks Yayah Zakaria
The explosion in wireless telecommunication technologies has lead to a huge increase in the number of mobile users. The greater dependency on the mobile devices has raised the user’s expectations to always remain best connected. In the process, the user is always desiringgood signal strength even at certain black spots and indoors. Moreover, the exponential growth of
the number of mobile devices has overloaded macrocells. Femtocells have emerged out as a good promising solution for complete coverage indoors and for offloading macrocell. Therefore, a new handover strategy between femtocells and macrocell is proposed in this paper. The proposed handover
algorithm is mainly based on calculating equivalent received signal strength along with dynamic margin for performing handover. The simulation results of proposed algorithm are compared with the traditional algorithm. The proposed strategy shows improvement in two major performance parameters
namely reduction in unnecessary handovers and Packet Loss Ratio. The quantitative analysis further shows 55.27% and 23.03% reduction in packet loss ratio and 61.85% and 36.78% reduction in unnecessary handovers at a speed of 120kmph and 30kmph respectively. Moreover, the proposed algorithm proves to be an efficient solution for both slow and fast moving vehicles.

ON THE REAL-TIME HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION FEASIBILITY OF JOINT
RADIO RESOURCE MANAGEMENT POLICIES FOR HETEROGENEOUS
WIRELESS NETWORKS
ABSTRACT:
The study and design of Joint Radio Resource Management (JRRM) techniques is a key and
challenging aspect in future heterogeneous wireless system where different Radio Access
Technologies (RAT) will physically coexist.
In these systems, the total available radio resources need to be used in a coordinated way to
guarantee adequate satisfaction levels to all users, and maximize the system revenues. In addition
to carry out an efficient use of the available radio resources, JRRM algorithms need to exhibit
good computational performance to guarantee their future implementation viability.
In this context, this paper proposes novel JRRM techniques based on linear programming
techniques, and investigates their computational cost when implemented in DSP platforms
commonly used in mobile-based stations. The obtained results demonstrate the feasibility to
implement the proposed JRRM algorithms in future heterogeneous wireless systems.
