Alderwood Elementary works in partnership with parents and the community to embrace diversity and empower students to become lifelong learners through personalized instruction. The school provides a caring learning environment to meet each child's needs and promote academic, personal, and social growth. Over 90% of Alderwood's diverse student body depends on free or reduced-price lunch. The school is requesting 20-25 pieces of Everett Silvertips merchandise to raffle off as prizes for its April reading challenge to reward over 100 students who participate.
1. To Whom It May Concern:
Alderwood Elementary works in partnership with parents and our community to
embrace our diversity and to empower students to become lifelong learners. Through
collaborative and personalized instruction, we ensure all students reach high standards of
intellectual and social development to become productive citizens of a global community.
Alderwood provides a caring learning environment to meet the needs of each child
through educational programs that will promote diversity, success and responsibility. In
partnership with families and community our staff is committed to ensuring each student
fulfills his or her potential in academic, personal, and social growth. Our student body comes
largely from low income – high-risk households, as over 90% depend on free/reduced lunch
to meet their nutritional needs on a daily basis, and our staff works tirelessly to ensure each
student is receiving the personalized attention required to ensure success on a daily basis.
Family Engagement events are an integral part of bringing students, parents, and staff
together as a community. Over each of our longer breaks, we have a school-wide reading
challenge, in which students can read towards a goal (either pages or total time spent reading)
that is set by their classroom teachers. If they reach this goal they are eligible to receive a
prize, most of which are donations from local businesses (Haggen, Rocket Donuts, Fred
Meyer, Menchies, TCBY, etc…) and sports teams (the Bellingham Bells, which is presented
to them at a school-wide assembly. Over Christmas Break we had a total of 102 students
participate, but we were only able to give out around 50 prizes. After our Spring Break
Reading Challenge, we are hoping to gather enough items so all of the students that reach
their reading goal will receive a prize. Therefore, we are requesting upwards of 20-25 pieces
of Everett Silvertips merchandise (bobbleheads, shirts, jerseys, pennants, etc…) that can be
raffled off to our students at our April 14th
awards assembly.
