The Doll Museum Arad
This is a unique museum in Israel, the dream of two sculptors ,international artists Miri Leibowitz and Eduard Shruster. The museum displays unique beautiful original dolls in several styles: papier-mache,porcelain and terracotta.

Miri’s works are often shown across Israel and abroad, in galleries, museums , and the private collections of royalty , presidents and doll lovers . Many celebrities own her dolls , including the queen of Holland who buys a doll every year on her birthday.

In the museum there are also some very interesting statues and dolls made by Eduard.

Some of the sculptures and dolls created by Miri Leibovitz are inspired by the characters of the Commedia Dell Arte - The folklore Theater that first appeared in Italy in the 16th century, and after that , travelled around Europe until the middle of the 18th century . This theater was comprised of professional actors who would improvise their scenes around a plot .

Over 22 years ago Miri first created a sculpture of one of the characters from Commedia Dell`Arte, this was Harlequino, and came about after she visited Paris where she was deeply impressed by a street clown.

But what made this visit a real treat was Miri, herself, who was our guide in the museum . She is a delightful lady, full of optimism , energy and lots of stories. Each sculpture and doll has its own story , each doll is unique . I won’t tell you any of the stories – why spoil the pleasure ? I hope you will visit the museum and enjoy it by yourself ! If you plan a trip there, take your time ! And don’t forget to call in advance : 052-2398918

Oh , yes ! I forgot her big Smile and contagious laughter ! I left the museum with a big smile on my face and … a cook book ( Rumanian cuisine ) that Miri wrote and I bought .
Nov-08 How to find the place ? At the entrance to Arad, coming from Tel Aviv or Beer Sheva, turn right into the Industrial zone, then right again at the roundabout, take the second right and the museum is almost at the end on the right side. I took some of the information from : www.artists2.com Music : Vivaldi – Mandolin concerto
