Conscious by Angelica Bergamini at Ivy Brown GalleryIvy Brown
Meat Packing District, NYC- Ivy Brown is pleased to present Angelica Bergamini’s first
solo New York exhibition. Angelica, born in Italy and now based in New York, has participated in numerous group shows in Italy, France, England, Germany, China and the United States. She has a permanent installation at the Hyatt Union Square, Come As You Are.
This exhibit will feature three bodies of her vibrant, mixed media work: Know Thyself, Memento and Freedom.
Know thyself is sourced in the words of Krishnamurti, “The beginning of freedom is self-knowledge”. This atmospheric body of works on paper using acrylic, ink, pigment inkjet print, represents the journey of self-discovery, visiting the unconscious while glimpsing the process of becoming ourselves. Like pages of a journal, one story visually unfolds and leads you to the next. We are honored to premiere three videos in this series that bring Know thyself to another level.
Memento is the root of her odyssey, it is both a pilgrimage and its migration. These mixed media pieces vividly reflect on what is both past and present.
The tactile and nature-infused Freedom series extends into the world with densely cut paper compositions. They embody the flow of self-knowledge, and explore the feminine, harmony and groundeness as crucial elements of our humanity.
Angelica’s multi-layered works are informed by her ongoing efforts to create a less reactive and more responsive presence in the world. They act as the muse to meditations on the many facets of surrender, empowerment, reverence, and love that exist in ourselves, and in our relation to a greater whole.
The show will run from September 21st to October 31st 2016

This article discusses the Pergamon Altar in Berlin and how it serves as a monument to power built by unknown laborers under difficult conditions. The author argues that today many still work under undignified circumstances discreetly maintaining museums and cultural institutions. While contributing to the success of artists and institutions, they lack basic protections like employment contracts. The author calls for a sharpened awareness of circumstances and injustice that leads to resistance against oppression, as history provides many examples of uprisings from slave revolts to modern times.
Shefqet Avdush Emini is an internationally recognized artist born in Kosovo who studied art in Pristina and now lives in the Netherlands. The second was at the city hall of The Hague organized by the Kosovo embassy in November. Emini creates multi-interpretable works using various mediums that explore themes of people, roots, and traditions and draw from Dutch masters and his own experiences living between cultures.
Pablo Chiereghin is an Italian artist based in Vienna whose work explores social and political themes through actions, performances, and interventions aimed at creating dialog with viewers. His pieces are conceived to lead viewers along situational paths with multilayered meanings. Some recent works include a clothes donation installation critiquing aid and exclusion of migrants, a performance highlighting random social issues, and transforming an art gallery into a police station to examine concepts of safety, fear and control.

When is art now? This lecture will focus on definitions of Contemporary Art that focus on the experience of 'time', comparing and contrasting them with theories of contemporary art that hold it to be a (sub)culture, a genre, a period, or a style.
What does it mean to state that art is contemporary rather than to hold that it is modern, prescient, traditional, nostalgic, postmodern, ancient...?
What concepts of time do people need to develop and share in order to understand the contemporary?
Where and how is the temporality of the contemporary situated?
This lecture will outline some of the key ways in which art theory has attempted to approach such questions by introducing a few key concepts such as: supercessionism, presentism, contemporaneity, anachrony, polychrony and chronopolitics.
To illustrate how this works in practice, the lecture will examine the chronopolitics of the 2012 Documenta and 2013 Venice Biennale.
Contemporary art can be understood as an experience of time that thickens the present. It calibrates ways of being in and out of time simultaneously. Contemporary art is also proposed to be a culture, genre, period, or style, with ongoing debates around how to define it within these categories. The document discusses these various conceptions of contemporary art and questions how works and exhibitions engage with ideas of presentism, anachronic time, and politics of time.
This document provides biographical information and an artistic dossier for Agostinho Manuel Bento de Oliveira. It includes details about his background, education, exhibitions from 2009-2011, awards, websites, press coverage, and images and descriptions of his artworks from various collections including "I Feel Love", "Voyeur", "Angel y Parejas", and "Poiesis, Living is Poetry". The artworks span multiple media and themes focused on relationships, voyeurism, and the transformative nature of artistic creation.

Marco G. Giannotti
Marco Giannotti. Interwoven
In Marco Giannotti’s recent paintings there unfolds a dialogue at least as venerable as the High Renaissance when the art of Florence
opposed Venice’s. Namely, between drawing/line and color (disegno and colore). These contending elements were long germinal in
Giannotti’s work - at least since the “facades” series (“Fachadas”, 1993). However, the artist has contiued to lend them strikingly modern
forms appropriate to the New World of his Brazilian homeland, as well as our increasingly dark times.

I need to share with you a quantum of blessing that came on me by

Mozaika ir sarežģītu attīstītu civilizāciju parādība
– viena no uzticamajam, celam un vizuāli bagātam
tehnikam. Mozaikas māksla daudzveidīga, galvenais ir
viens visiem laikiem un tautām – radīja īsto vērtību.

My first experience with photography was working as a model. I had a growing curiosity also about
the other side of the camera, so I strated to research the other side of the camera 4 years ago. My first
model was me myself – I put the camera on a tripod and then did my selfportraits. I found it very
healing in a way of how I could express myself and see myself on both sides of the camera at the
same time. Since then I’ve been trying to find my style by photographing people and nature.
Currently I am studying art therapy and I am trying to develop a method called Phototherapy. I am
doing a research based on the experience of working with this method in Latvia as I believe that it
can be healing and self empowering. These photos are my therapy and a representation of my inner
world.

Arthur Nikitin was born in 1936 in St.-Petersburg. In 1962 he graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts. His field comprises paint-
ing, graphic arts, sculpture, and design. He is a member of the Artist Union of Latvia and a lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts,
Design Department, Latvian His works are in the collections of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin
Museum (Moskow, Russia), the Latvian Art Museum and the Fund of the Artist Union.
Arthur Nikitin is an analyst by his nature. In his search for the hidden, internal and sacred he deforms and destroys conventional
forms, shocks by his informality and delights with sophisticated taste. The artist excites one’s imagination and irritates with ideas
that cannot be interpreted unequivocally. Even time in his works seems indeterminate: it flows to eternity and suddenly is squeezed
into a single moment. Like every artist, he strives for objectivity. And in his search for essence, he makes “magic mistakes”, proving
to us recurrently how important it is to an artist to omit the insignificant and emphasize the characteristic features by applying any
method grotesque to idealizing the image to an “anti canon”.
