Bigfoot is a 6-10-foot-tall North American
cryptid that weighs about 400 pounds or more.
The first sightings of this creature were during
the early 19th century. Most of these sightings
were in the northwest region of North America
but were not real. However, just because many
sightings have been false does not mean that
Bigfoot does not exist. Areas of North America
boast an ecosystem that could support Bigfoot;
the existence of such a creature cannot be
discounted based on environmental factors.
Bigfoot can thrive and reproduce based on the
area and habitat of the region, climate, and
food located in the northwest.

2. IS THE HABITAT A
MATCH?
According to “Basic Facts About Grizzly Bears,” Grizzly
bears can thrive in varying habitats, “…from dense forests
to subalpine meadows, open plains and arctic tundra
(Basic Facts About Grizzly Bears).” They live in western
Canada, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and a few have been
seen in Washington; being that Bigfoot and a grizzly bear
have similar weight, hair, and dietary needs, it is very
likely that Bigfoot could also survive in these locations.
Forests cover about 47% of the northwest (“Northwest”).
This leaves plenty of area for a population of Bigfoots to
thrive. Therefore, there is plenty of space for Bigfoots to
survive and form a population within the northwest
region.

3. CAN HE HANDLE THE
CLIMATE?
Based on information from “USA State
Temperatures,” the climate of the northwest
region ranges from 40-60 degrees Fahrenheit
during the spring, summer, and fall and between
15-35 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter (“USA
State Temperatures”). Grizzly bears survive this
type of climate year after year, and they have a
thick layer of fur to protect them. The climate in
this region does not get too warm; an
environment that is very hot would not allow
grizzly bears of Bigfoots to thrive because they
would overheat due to their thick coat of fur that
covers their entire bodies. Bigfoots also have a
thick layer of fur to protect them during the cold
weather, which means climate proves to show no

4. CAN FOOD ALLUDE TO HIS
EXISTENCE?
As the climate of the northwest warms up during the spring, the
accumulated snow in the mountains melts, bringing more freshwater to
rivers- rivers that Bigfoot may decide to drink from or even bathe in
(“Northwest”). Due to Bigfoot’s large size, weighing around 400 pounds,
he must consume a diet large enough for him to thrive in his
environment (“Bigfoot Facts”). Fish available in the northwest region of
North America include salmon and steelhead (“Northwest”). According
to “Basic Facts About Grizzly Bears,” grizzly bears weigh between, “350 to
800 pounds for males, and roughly 25% less for females.” Bigfoots weigh
between 400 and 1,000 pounds, according to “Bigfoot Facts.” Grizzly
bears eat at the top of the food chain, so it is very likely that Bigfoots do
as well. Grizzly’s consume “plant edibles such as wild berries, grasses,
flowers, tubers, wild vegetables, etc. They also eat bugs, rodents, and can
attack larger animals for food (Basic Facts About Grizzly Bears).” Being
that grizzly bears and Bigfoots weigh about the same, it is probable to say
that they have very similar diets. If this region’s food availability can
support grizzly bears, it can most likely support Bigfoots as well.
Therefore, the northwest region contains enough food for a population
of Bigfoots to thrive on.

5. THE SURVIVAL OF THE
BIGGEST
The existence of Bigfoot leads to much controversy
and skepticism; however, environmental factors do
not dispute his existence. Based on the survival of
similar animals in the northwest, Bigfoot has enough
area of land to reproduce and form a population of
Bigfoots, can stand the climate of the region, and has
plenty of sources of nutrition within the region to live.
Even though everyone may not agree with Bigfoot’s
existence, there is no dispute over facts; the fact of
the matter is that Bigfoot has the ability to survive in
the northwest region of North America.
