Alquity, in partnership with UK registered charity The One Foundation, helps people in developing countries who struggle to earn a living and who do not have access to credit and savings services from large banks and financial institutions. Alquity donates a minimum of 25% of their net fund management fees from the Alquity Africa Fund to The One Foundation, which directly supports microfinance programmes to create jobs and lift people out of poverty. They also had the opportunity to visit schools supported by The One Foundation and help with their school feeding program.

The Afya Jijini Project aims to improve access to quality health services for over 3 million people in Nairobi County, Kenya. It will strengthen institutional and management capacity at the county and sub-county levels to deliver healthcare. Specifically, the project seeks to increase access to HIV services, and maternal, child, family planning and reproductive health services. It will also strengthen the county and sub-county health systems. The project will work at multiple levels of the health system over 5 years with $35 million in funding from USAID.
Mukuru Promotion Centre is requesting $1.5 million annually from 2012-2015 to enhance access to affordable community healthcare in Mukuru, Kenya. The project aims to increase healthcare clients from 15,000 to 18,000 annually by providing services through nurses and community health workers. It also intends to improve sanitation by installing water tanks to benefit 1,200 households. Regular health checks of 4,500 school children and training of caregivers and health workers on healthcare topics are also objectives. Monitoring and evaluation will ensure objectives are met and results shared with stakeholders.

The development of the health system was completely disrupted at the time of the 1994 genocide. Much of the infrastructure, equipment, personnel, and health system itself was destroyed. Rwanda was known as one of the countries in Africa with the poorest healthcare system.
However, during the past decade, great improvements have been made. The government has been working to rebuild the health system. Rwanda operates a universal health care system and is now considered to have one of the highest-quality health systems in Africa.

structures in the most underserved and remote
areas of Rwanda.

3. Communities in rural Rwanda are far from the reach of Rwanda’s
various healthcare programs. Depending on location, the people in
these communities will walk between 4 and 30 hours to get to a
hospital. The distance often makes them not go at all. Do Good Health
is on a unique mission to bring healthcare to these people through a
first of its kind public-private partnership with the government of
Rwanda.

6. Do Good Health is beginning by opening its first medical clinic on land
near Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee Company’s coffee washing
stations on Lake Kivu. This vibrant coffee-growing community is
located in a secluded areas at a very high elevation. Because of
work, like most of rural Rwanda, many families have moved to this
area. Implementing a Health Clinic in the heart of this village is an
opportunity to directly affect the lives of those who make Thousand
Hills possible, and the communities surrounding them.
Over 10,000 coffee farmers and the communities around them will
gain easy access to healthcare.
