Divorce rates in India have doubled in recent years, with many cases being filed by young, working professionals between ages 25-35. Cities like Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Bengaluru have all seen significant increases in divorce filings in recent years. Common reasons for divorce include issues like ego, stress from professional competition, dislike of a partner's appearance, lack of trust, infidelity, and financial or communication problems. While divorce has more societal acceptance now, it can negatively impact spouses, children, and families emotionally and financially. Maintaining realistic expectations and developing understanding is important to build healthy marriages.

In 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs established a committee led by Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, former Vice Chancellor of National Law University (NLU), Delhi. This committee was tasked with reviewing the three codes of criminal law. The primary objective of the committee was to propose comprehensive reforms to the country’s criminal laws in a manner that is both principled and effective.
The committee’s focus was on ensuring the safety and security of individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole. Throughout its deliberations, the committee aimed to uphold constitutional values such as justice, dignity, and the intrinsic value of each individual. Their goal was to recommend amendments to the criminal laws that align with these values and priorities.
Subsequently, in February, the committee successfully submitted its recommendations regarding amendments to the criminal law. These recommendations are intended to serve as a foundation for enhancing the current legal framework, promoting safety and security, and upholding the constitutional principles of justice, dignity, and the inherent worth of every individual.

2. DIVORCE
A divorce is a legal action between married people to terminate their
marriage relationship. It can be referred to as dissolution of marriage
and is basically, the legal action that ends the marriage before the
death of either spouse.
3. WHY DIVORCE
The young couples are fast becoming upwardly mobile and rich in
Indian cities. But economic prosperity is taking its toll on the marital
status and marriages are falling apart. Over the years the number of
divorce cases filed in the family courts have doubled. It is seen that
most of the couples filing a divorce petition in the family courts are
working professionals in the age group of 25-35 years. The main
reasons are ego, stress to professional competition.
4. Numbers rolling forward
• 11,667 cases of divorce were filed in Mumbai in 2014 (till nov 30), up
from 5,245 cases in 2010
• About 2,000 cases were filed in the lucknow family court in 2014 . Of
these, about 900 were filed by young couples married less then a

then a year was 300.

from the 2,388 cases filed in 2003.
• THREE more FAMILY COURTS were opened in Bengaluru in 2013, to
cater to the growing demand, taking the total no. of such courts to

5. REASONS FOR DIVORCE
While for many, marriage is the beginning of a whole new life, for some
it's the end of the road and that's because Indians are no more the
patient lot they used to be, when marriages were made in heaven.
The divorce rate in India has risen to 13 per 1,000 from a mere 1 in
1,000 some ten years ago and probability of witnessing a bigger figure
next year is almost certain. But, has anyone of us even bothered to
find out what's leading to so many broken marriages?Dr. Nisha Khanna,
a leading psychologist, marriage counselor and a relationship expert
told some bizarre reasons to TOI.
TOI | Ankita Shukla | Jan 4, 2016
6. BIZARRE REASONS
• I hate my wife's appearance
the most common reason for men filing for divorce is the fact that they
dislike their partner's appearance. And, if you thought this was only
common to men who've had arranged marriages, be ready to be
shocked because men who have married as per their will are leading
this pack of unsatisfied husbands. Is this the metrosexual effect, uh?
• My mom-in-law gifted me artificial jewellery, I feel cheated!
Yes, some Indian bahus are walking out of their marriages because of
being duped by their vicious mom-in-laws, who promised them gold
but couldn't keep the promise
TOI | Ankita Shukla | Jan 4, 2016
7. • I was asked to touch my husband's feet on Karva Chauth, I'm appalled
• My husband is not presentable
• I was living in a bigger house before!
8. GENUINE CAUSES OF DIVORCE
• Rapid change in society
• Pressure to marry
• Work problem
• Poor communication
• Infidelity
• No more trust
• Drinking or drug abuse
• Physical or mental abuse
• Money problem
• Incompatible
9. WHY SO CASUAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS DIVORCE
• Divorce no longer a social taboo
• Greater societal acceptance
• The anonymity of big cities
• Financial freedom
• The sanctity of marriage is taking a beating.
• More DINKS couples (double income no kids)
• Stress of modern life.
• Loneliness.
• Change in gender roles.
• Movies

11. EFFETS OVER HUSBANDS
The effects of divorce differ by situation and personal circumstance.
Most dangerous stage for men is, waiting for divorce, than after
divorce. as marriage disputes in India, irrespective the man is right or
wrong ,they had been abused, blackmailed, treated as Free ATM
machine in front of society/police/court every where. In India marriage
disputes had been termed as crime for men.
Crime Bure data 2012 : Married Men Sucide : 63343 vs Married
Women Sucide 32000.Still there is no LAW to Protect Men why?
12. 1. Financial effect: Huge loss irrespective the men is right or wrong.
2. Government support: Due to no men welfare ministry and no shelter
homes, no one cares for men.
3. Emotional effect: Depend on type of trouble he faced, type of
marriage they have, time spend together, child involved or not and the
last think the type of divorce man got.
4. Loss of child access: Major problem and maximum divorced men
suicide related to that.
5. Social effect: It is not exactly loss, his the social and networking circle
got changed, attract towards more unclear family instead of joint
family.
13. EFFECT OVER WIFES
• Shame and guilt
• Resentment and anger
• Depression
• Clinging to the past
• Fear and anxiety
• Loss of self-confidence
• economically affected
14. EFFECTS OVER CHILDERNS

• Say “you love them”
• Address changes
• Present a united front
• Be respectful
• Let them express there feelings
17. CONCLUSION
We are becoming emotionally unstable, thanks to the expectations of
the society, stress and other factors. "People have unrealistic
expectations these days and things go wrong when you walk into a
marriage expecting it to be a fairy tale, because it isn't going to be one,“
you have to learn to adjust and have to develop better understanding
for each other if you want to see a better tomorrow for your kids with
some family values.
