1. What is a Production
Company?
A production company is a company which 'provides the physical basis for the works', which means
provides the work for a film, tv programme, radio, etc. This means they are responsible for the
budgeting, scheduling, scripting, organisation production, post-production including distribution
and marketing, of the film. Companies can sometimes join together, to co-produce a film. There are
many famous and not so famous production companies which are behind the makings of many well
known films.

2. Our Production Company
As our main inspiration for our opening sequence was Se7en, we decided to research what
production company produced Se7en. We found that it was New Line Cinema. We decided to try
and replicate New Line Cinema, however making it original to the film. The reason we chose to
replicate it was as they are known for producing some low budget films, which is what ours is. We
wanted to create a production company which was specialised to this film, so we took the name of
the film ‘Tormented’ and created the production company ‘Torment Productions’. The print screen
below shows how the production company appears in our opening sequence, and it’s quite plain
like the New Line Cinema, however without a logo.

3. Distribution Companies
A film distributor is a company who is responsible for releasing films to the public. They
do this through broadcasting, and through film distribution networks.
As our film was a low budget film, we decided to keep our production company the
distribution company, as well. This means our distribution company is also Torment
Productions, and as it was the same company we decided to not repeat it in the titles, as
it would be boring and look the same.
