4. A person with D.I.D. often has a main personality. Their alternative
personalities or alter ego’s may be a different age and gender,
exhibiting different moods and characteristics.
The alternative personalities take turns being “in control.” When this
alternative personality is not in control, it dissociates or detaches.
Dissociation is a common coping mechanism for extreme stress and
trauma especially in childhood. It is a way of shielding the main
personality from a painful mental or physical experience
Symptoms: A sense of losing time, Confusion, Memory Gaps, Out of Character Behavior,
Feelings of Detachment and exhibiting two or more alternate personalities
6. Based upon the true story of Frankie Murdoch,
an African American ’70’s-era go-go dancer living with D.I.D.
She has two additional identities plaguing her:
A scared 7-year girl, named Genius with an incredibly high I.Q.
A bigoted, white Southern Belle named Alice
8. During one of her therapy sessions, Dr. Oz
meet’s Frankie’s other personalities, a
child and a southern white lady.
Frankie contains multiple identities & personality traits within a single body.
9. Frankie’s mother was a servant in a
white household in Georgia.
At 15, Frankie fell in love with the white
family’s son, Pete and became pregnant.
In this scene of the movie, Frankie is
suffering a “flashback” D.I.D. episode –
portraying her real life experience of
giving birth to her baby, and the exact
moment that Frankie’s mother takes
away her crying baby, smothers it and
wraps it up for the garbage.
In this scene, Frankie is transferring behavioral control among
her alter identities
10. The Alice Scene
In this scene, Frankie now
portrays her alternate
personality, Alice, a racist
Southern Belle. When Alice
comes out, Frankie dissociates
so much that she actually sees
herself as a white woman with
very racist views and thoughts.
11. The Doctor finally uncovers the underlying story
of Frankie’s Dissociative Identity Disorder as a
result from the past relationship with her lover,
Pete and her baby.
Pete’s family looked down upon interracial dating,
so they were never able to develop a relationship
together, which is the reason why the personality
of Alice exists. Frankie was going to name her
baby, “Alice”
During the process of Pete and Frankie’s short
relationship and after she had become pregnant,
Pete dies in a car accident. The scared 7-year old
girl, Genius is the alternate personality of the
baby.
Now that the doctor has uncovered why these
two alternate personalities exist and all the
past trauma associated with them, she can
now move forward trying to integrate all
personalities into one and co-exist together.
