Dissociative Diane Diane is a thirty-six year old white female. Currently she is divorced with two children and is employed as a daycare worker. During the session the client seemed to be intelligent with excellent personal and spiritual insight into her situation. Her non-verbals indicated some anxiety (crossed legs, face twitches) and depression (teariness). Diane is the older of two children. She was adopted as an infant after her mother gave her because she was the byproduct of a very violent rape. She describes a childhood filled with intense physical, verbal and sexual abuse by several members of her family. Beginning at age two Diane has memories of her paternal Grandfather sexually abusing her and using her in conjunction with satanic rituals. The rituals involved physical abuse as well as threats with a knife, blood and an Italian horn being laid on Diane’s bare chest. To the best of her knowledge this abuse continued until Diane was five. During this time her paternal Grandmother, who was a spiritist, said prayers to protect Diane and would often cursed other family members by putting menstrual blood in the family’s ‘Sunday sauce’. Diane’s uncle simultaneously abused her during this time. His abuse was also sexual in nature, but was also very physically abusive. Specific memories include being thrown naked into a pile of laundry and then molested, being thrown on a bed, being molested while watched by her uncle’s friends and being slapped across the face when not being willing to perform oral sex. Diane’s maternal grandparents did not participate in any abuse, but witnessed both physical and sexual abuse and often told Diane that she had brought the actions on herself. This pattern was duplicated by Diane’s adoptive parents who would vacillate from calling her their ‘little princess’ to choking, punching and sometimes torturing Diane, particularly in her teen years. At the age of twenty-eight Diane married her current husband. The couple was together six years until their divorce five years ago. Matt also sexually abused Diane before their marriage, causing her to hemorrhage and be taken to the hospital, at which time she was also treated for multiple bruises. Matt also came from a background of sexual abuse by his father, uncle and and priest. He was forced to commit several homosexual acts in a church context as well as childhood pornography. Several years later his father was arrested as a pedophile. During their marriage Diane experiences several bouts of verbal, physical and sexual abuse and now experiences intense PTSD symptoms when he comes to pick up the children. Currently Diane is taking Lithium for Bipolar Disorder (diagnosed at the age of thirteen during a two week stay in the state hospital). She also has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and currently takes Zyprexa to counteract hallucinations. Diane also suffers from PTSD and has learning disabilities as well as diffic.

Donna Little is a 39-year-old Indian woman who has a history of substance misuse and has struggled with reunification with her adolescent children over the last 6 years. She was in residential school from the age of 6 to 16 years old. She has a history of domestic violence in her previous relationships. Donna was the youngest of four children in her family. Her parents, siblings, and herself were raised in the same small northern reservation. Both her parents had gone to residential school in the early 1950s, as did her grandfathers and grandmothers on both sides of her family system in the late 1910s. Donna was raised in an environment of violence and mayhem in her early childhood, which she has talked about quite extensively in counseling. Although her parents abused alcohol, she emphasizes repeatedly that her family was quite ceremonial and participated in the big drum feast and singing within the community. When Donna was 6, an Indian agent wearing a red, white, and black checkered jacket gave her candy and took her to the residential school. She never had the opportunity to say good-bye to her mom and dad, who died of tuberculosis while she was in the residential school. Donna reflects on her residential school experience with a despondent look. While in the residential school, she had only one friend she could count on. Her siblings, who were also at the school, were older and thus not allowed to play with her or sleep near her at the residence dorms. This created an incredible loneliness that Donna did not know how to fill, and often she would use alcohol to help numb that pain. She did not like to drink, but it helped her to stop her thinking badly about the past. Donna was a victim of sexual abuse in the residential school, primarily by the Roman Catholic priest who was in charge. The first time she was assaulted she was 7; the last assault occurred right before she ran away at age 16. When Donna had attempted to tell the head nun in charge of her dorm what was happening to her, she was beaten severely, to the point of unconsciousness. Donna recalls it was her friend, Sue, who nursed her back to health. Donna describes her life as difficult. She went home to her community, only to find a partner who turned out to be as violent toward her as her father was to her mother. She loves her children and cares for them deeply. On 2 November 1987, at 6:45 A.M., the police and paramedics were called to a townhouse in New York's Greenwich Village by a woman who reported that her six-year-old daughter had stopped breathing. When the police arrived, they found Lisa Steinberg unconscious. Her face was bruised; there were numerous marks on her arms, lower back, and calves, and she was covered in grime. Her hair was disheveled and dirty. Hedda Nussbaum, Lisa's mother, had two black eyes, a split lip, and a nose that no longer had a bridge. She appeared confused and withdrawn and was slow in responding to the paramedic's request for information about the child. Joel Steinberg, Lisa's father, was disheveled and very nervous. A 16-month-old brother, Mitchell Steinberg, was found in his crib, dirty and smelling of urine. Lisa was taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed as brain dead; she died two days later. Upon questioning, Joel Steinberg said that 12 hours before the paramedics were called, Lisa had complained of an upset stomach and had vomited, so her parents had sent her to bed. When they checked on her, she was found unconscious.
The police investigation centered on Joel Steinberg as the obvious perpetrator. Following a 12-week trial, which was sensationalized in the media, he was sentenced to prison. What really happened to Lisa remained inconclusive. It was Steinberg who was tried, not Nussbaum. She was kept on the security ward in the psychiatric wing of a metropolitan hospital for security rather than medical reasons. Joel Steinberg became the central villain in the situation; Hedda Nussbaum became a cause celebre as a battered woman, even though there were many questions about her participation in the abuse of Lisa over the years and about the fact that she waited 12 hours to summon help for a six-year-old child.
The Lisa Steinberg situation, analyzed in great detail in reporter Joyce Johnson's book What Lisa Knew (1990), became an extremely popular news story with the American public because it forced people to reconsider their assumptions about child abuse and the types of people involved in such matters. Hedda Nussbaum was a Hunter College graduate, she had worked as a secretary, a teacher, an executive assistant to the vice-president of an educational company, and later as a children's book editor at Appleton, Century, Crofts. She came from an intact family where there was no history of abuse. She had involved herself in a variety of self-improvement therapies over the years. Joel Steinberg graduated from Fordham University and later from New York University Law School. At the time of Lisa's death, he was a practicing criminal lawyer in Manhattan.

Jamie is 28 years old and speaks moderate English. He grew up in Honduras with his parents, eight brothers and sisters, and grandparents. His father frequently went on “drinking binges” and would “put his mom in her place.” It was a patriarchy system in which they did not have a lot of income and his father had numerous mistresses. He reports that he was raised with a strong Catholic background, and he continues to practice today. His uncle sexually abused him from ages 6 to 13 when Jamie reports he was able to beat him up enough to get away. He did not want to appear “gay,” so he had numerous sexual partners and got in lots of fights to prove his masculinity. In his late teens, his brother got involved with the Mara Salvatrucha gang and tried to recruit Jamie. This was around the time he met Maria, and they decided to illegally enter the States at Maria’s urging since she was pregnant and wanted to raise their child in a better life.
Maria is 26 years old and speaks little English. She grew up in Honduras as well with her mother, grandmother, and nine brothers and sisters. She never knew her father who abandoned the family when she was an infant. Her mother had several other long-term relationships but never married. Her family was “very poor” and she did not finish school past fifth grade. Maria was raped when she was 10 and then began a life of prostitution to help her mom with feeding the rest of the family. She met Jamie when she was 18 and quickly got pregnant. She illegally entered the States and began to work in a home in Texas. After she had the baby, Jamie was able to illegally enter the States and began working odd construction jobs to pay their bills since Maria no longer was working to care for Sofia.
Jamie and Maria report that they have not been successful in having any more children, which Jamie blames on Maria’s previous sexual history. He is ashamed since in his culture, “men are
supposed to have many children.” Maria reports that she had many difficulties in having Sofia and did not get the proper medical care she needed. Sofia was born premature and has speech and other motor skill delays. Both Jamie and Maria admit they used drugs in the past but adamantly deny any current drug use because they know it would affect their immigration status. Manny and Donna Maldonado have been married for 42 years. Manny is age 65 and Donna is 63. Sarah,
Mike and Becky are the children of Manny and Donna Maldonado. Sarah is the eldest daughter,
followed by her brother, Mike, and her sister, Becky.
Manny is Hispanic American and owns a 20,000-acre produce farm that has been in his family for
three generations. Although Manny speaks and understands English, he prefers to speak Spanish.
This creates a language barrier between Manny and other family members who do not speak
Spanish. Donna is fluent in Spanish, having learned the language from Manny and his family.
Donna works on the farm with her husband. She has long suffered from mood swings, which is
mostly frustrating to Manny. He says it is “brujeria,” meaning her moods are caused by witchcraft
and “mal d ojo” or “evil eye.” He believes someone put a spell on Donna. When this is believed to
be the case, the person will visit a Curandero (healer) who will perform a healing ritual.
o Sarah works as a nurse, and recently took Family Leave of Medical Absence (FMLA) due to
her children’s recent issues.

Lucy, age 20, has a history of severe substance use disorder, along with having been
diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In the past two years, Lucy has had four different jobs.

school.
Evan, age 10, was recently diagnosed with leukemia; however, he has not yet started
treatments. Evan’s doctors have recommended chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone

Manny and Donna Maldonado have been married for 42 years. Manny is age 65 and Donna is 63. Sarah,
Mike and Becky are the children of Manny and Donna Maldonado. Sarah is the eldest daughter,
followed by her brother, Mike, and her sister, Becky.
Manny is Hispanic American and owns a 20,000-acre produce farm that has been in his family for
three generations. Although Manny speaks and understands English, he prefers to speak Spanish.
This creates a language barrier between Manny and other family members who do not speak
Spanish. Donna is fluent in Spanish, having learned the language from Manny and his family.
Donna works on the farm with her husband. She has long suffered from mood swings, which is
mostly frustrating to Manny. He says it is “brujeria,” meaning her moods are caused by witchcraft
and “mal d ojo” or “evil eye.” He believes someone put a spell on Donna. When this is believed to
be the case, the person will visit a Curandero (healer) who will perform a healing ritual.

her children’s recent issues.

Lucy, age 20, has a history of severe substance use disorder, along with having been
diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In the past two years, Lucy has had four different jobs.
She is unable to hold a job long-term. She now works on her grandparent’s produce
farm.
Josh, age 17, has been sneaking away with friends, smoking marijuana and skipping
school.
Evan, age 10, was recently diagnosed with leukemia; however, he has not yet started
treatments. Evan’s doctors have recommended chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone
marrow transplant. Sarah and Joe intend to follow this treatment plan.

the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Mike was recently diagnosed with HIV.

HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS
: Tiana admitted to throwing up when she overeats several times per week. She finds herself eating a lot of sweets when she is under stress and is concerned about gaining weight. She found websites on the Internet describing ways to keep her weight down. Tiana reports that she was much heavier when younger and wants to confirm she doesn’t get like that again. Eric got an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He has been enlisted for the past 8 years and deployed twice for 2 years. Once to Afghanistan and then to Iraq. His occupation while in the military was a police officer.
Since his discharge, Eric has been unable to find employment which led to his separation from his wife and family, drug use, sleepless nights, hearing voices and having flashbacks of combat memories.

Leon is a 52-year old man who describes his family of origin as "extremely dysfunctional," with both parents having "addictive personalities." His father was an alcoholic, and fathered many children by several woman. Leon's father was also verbally and physically abusive. Shouting and violence were common family experiences.
His parents divorced when Leon was six. As a divorcee with illegitimate children, his mother became an outcast in his small town, so she moved his family to Mexico City. There, his mother dealt with the stresses of life by becoming extremely angry and violent with her children. At age 17, Leon had reached the limit of his ability to endure this violence. He moved out of the house, along with his brothers and sisters. As the oldest child, Leon became the main source of support for his younger siblings.
Leon studied to be a plumber, and later a general contractor.
He had deep anxiety about committing to marriage and family, and especially feared being abandoned. Eventually, Leon married a designer, and they had two daughters, and have been married for 27 years. He describes himself as “committed, but distant” from his wife, feeling himself disengaged from family activities and finding little joy in anything. Mostly apathetic, recently, his older daughter chose to work instead of attending college, Leon noted that he reacted with frustration and anger, reminding himself of his mother.
Leon feels lack of energy, occasional heart palpitations, insomnia, and constipation (since age six, when his parents divorced).

CHIEF COMPLAINT/PRESENTING PROBLEM: Carlos was referred for an evaluation becausehis parents and teacher indicate that Carlos is restless, and often requires reminders to help him stay on task. He is described as "constantly running around" and presenting with difficulties listening and following instructions.
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: Carlos enjoys spending time with his friends, and participating in physical activities such as swimming, running and skating. He also enjoys participating in social events, and is often invited to play dates and birthday parties. While Carlos interacts well with peers his own age, his parents believe he is easily led and influenced by others. Carlos does get upset when he does not receive recognition or feels that he has been ignored. His teacher notes that he sometimes acts 'socially immature', and that he often demonstrates attention-seeking behavior.
Carlos has difficulty focusing and sitting still in class. He is able to 'hyper focus' on some activities of interest however he often has difficulty sustaining his attention at school. Carlos has been known to blurt out answers and interrupts other students in the classroom. His mother reports difficulties at home with following routines and remembering instructions. His parents describe emotional reactivity as well as confrontational behaviors demonstrated both at home and at school. His teacher notes that Carlos is defiant towards listening to instructions, but generally interacts well with his peers. He is easily frustrated and emotionally impulsive - Carlos has had several incidents of hitting, crying outbursts, and inappropriate behavior. Eric’s religious background is that of Christianity while Dianne is from a Catholic religious background.
Eric’s social history includes his prior involvement as an active member of his church, Fraternity and Parent-Teacher Association at his children’s schools. Dianne is a stay at home mom also the family disciplinarian for their children
Eric’s family history includes a father who had a history of drug abuse, an uncle who struggled with alcoholism. His family has had several family members who were also in the military. His parents got divorced when he was 12 years old and his family was not accepting of his marriage to Dianne.
History of presenting problem
Eric got an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He has been enlisted for the past 8 years and deployed twice for 2 years. Once to Afghanistan and then to Iraq. His occupation while in the military was a police officer.
Since his discharge, Eric has been unable to find employment which led to his separation from his wife and family, drug use, sleepless nights, hearing voices and having flashbacks of combat memories.

Leon is a 52-year old man who describes his family of origin as "extremely dysfunctional," with both parents having "addictive personalities." His father was an alcoholic, and fathered many children by several woman. Leon's father was also verbally and physically abusive. Shouting and violence were common family experiences.
His parents divorced when Leon was six. As a divorcee with illegitimate children, his mother became an outcast in his small town, so she moved his family to Mexico City. There, his mother dealt with the stresses of life by becoming extremely angry and violent with her children. At age 17, Leon had reached the limit of his ability to endure this violence. He moved out of the house, along with his brothers and sisters. As the oldest child, Leon became the main source of support for his younger siblings.
Leon studied to be a plumber, and later a general contractor.
He had deep anxiety about committing to marriage and family, and especially feared being abandoned. Eventually, Leon married a designer, and they had two daughters, and have been married for 27 years. He describes himself as “committed, but distant” from his wife, feeling himself disengaged from family activities and finding little joy in anything. Mostly apathetic, recently, his older daughter chose to work instead of attending college, Leon noted that he reacted with frustration and anger, reminding himself of his mother.
Leon feels lack of energy, occasional heart palpitations, insomnia, and constipation (since age six, when his parents divorced).

CHIEF COMPLAINT/PRESENTING PROBLEM: Carlos was referred for an evaluation becausehis parents and teacher indicate that Carlos is restless, and often requires reminders to help him stay on task. He is described as "constantly running around" and presenting with difficulties listening and following instructions.
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: Carlos enjoys spending time with his friends, and participating in physical activities such as swimming, running and skating. He also enjoys participating in social events, and is often invited to play dates and birthday parties. While Carlos interacts well with peers his own age, his parents believe he is easily led and influenced by others. Carlos does get upset when he does not receive recognition or feels that he has been ignored. His teacher notes that he sometimes acts 'socially immature', and that he often demonstrates attention-seeking behavior.
Carlos has difficulty focusing and sitting still in class. He is able to 'hyper focus' on some activities of interest however he often has difficulty sustaining his attention at school. Carlos has been known to blurt out answers and interrupts other students in the classroom. His mother reports difficulties at home with following routines and remembering instructions. His parents describe emotional reactivity as well as confrontational behaviors demonstrated both at home and at school. His teacher notes that Carlos is defiant towards listening to instructions, but generally interacts well with his peers. He is easily frustrated and emotionally impulsive - Carlos has had several incidents of hitting, crying outbursts, and inappropriate behavior. Behavioral concerns with aggression, lying, arguments, and disruptive behavior were noted in his pre-school program at age 4. Each school year since teachers have reported incidents in the classroom.

Infosys Technologies’ effort to convert each employee’s knowledge into an organizational asset started in the early 1990s and extended well into the first decade of the 2000s.
In the early 1990s, Infosys launched its
bodies of knowledge (BOK)
initiative, which involved encouraging employees to provide written accounts of their experiences across various topics, such as technologies, software development, and living abroad. These experiences were then shared in hard-copy form with all other employees. This early effort ballooned into a full-fledged KM effort supported by e-mail, bulletin boards, and various knowledge repositories. In 1996, a corporate intranet was developed to make BOKs, in HTML format, easily accessible to all. In 1999, Infosys began an organization-wide program to integrate the various knowledge initiatives. After reading this weeks chapter, collective bargaining is essentially a negotiation and comprised of four parts, identifying the issues, researching, strategizing and setting ground rules. (Seaquist, 2015) In my opinion of the one step that would be most important would be the identifying the issues. You need a clear cut idea of what the issues are and where you plan to go with all of this "Since the end product of collective bargaining is the actual agreement, it is essential to first identify what collective bargaining should accomplish. This is referred to as identifying the issues.". Without clarity you could be arguing for nothing and that is where you will wind up and no resolution to anything. Identify what is wanted and /or wrong and then as they say do the research to know where you are going with this. As I stated before, without this step, things would become primarily useless as there is no guidance as to what the main issues are. Such as in this article it describes Mandatory Bargaining Issues as "An employer doesn't have to bargain over every conceivable employment issues. However, employers must bargain with the union over issues that are central to the employment relationship, such as wages, hours, and layoff procedures. Employers must give the union advance notice of any proposed workplace changes that involve these issues, if the union requests it. An employer who refuses to bargain or takes unilateral action in one of these mandatory bargaining areas commits an unfair labor practice."(Guerin, L.2015).

harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.

- 1. Dissociative Diane Diane is a thirty-six year old white female. Currently she is divorced with two children and is employed as a daycare worker. During the session the client seemed to be intelligent with excellent personal and spiritual insight into her situation. Her non-verbals indicated some anxiety (crossed legs, face twitches) and depression (teariness). Diane is the older of two children. She was adopted as an infant after her mother gave her because she was the byproduct of a very violent rape. She describes a childhood filled with intense physical, verbal and sexual abuse by several members of her family. Beginning at age two Diane has memories of her paternal Grandfather sexually abusing her and using her in conjunction with satanic rituals. The rituals involved physical abuse as well as threats with a knife, blood and an Italian horn being laid on Diane’s bare chest.
- 2. To the best of her knowledge this abuse continued until Diane was five. During this time her paternal Grandmother, who was a spiritist, said prayers to protect Diane and would often cursed other family members by putting menstrual blood in the family’s ‘Sunday sauce’. Diane’s uncle simultaneously abused her during this time. His abuse was also sexual in nature, but was also very physically abusive. Specific memories include being thrown naked into a pile of laundry and then molested, being thrown on a bed, being molested while watched by her uncle’s friends and being slapped across the face when not being willing to perform oral sex. Diane’s maternal grandparents did not participate in any abuse, but witnessed both physical and sexual abuse and often told Diane that she had brought the actions on herself. This pattern was duplicated by Diane’s adoptive parents who would vacillate from calling her their ‘little princess’ to choking, punching and sometimes torturing Diane, particularly in her teen years. At the age of twenty-eight Diane married her current husband. The couple was together six years until their divorce five years ago.
- 3. Matt also sexually abused Diane before their marriage, causing her to hemorrhage and be taken to the hospital, at which time she was also treated for multiple bruises. Matt also came from a background of sexual abuse by his father, uncle and and priest. He was forced to commit several homosexual acts in a church context as well as childhood pornography. Several years later his father was arrested as a pedophile. During their marriage Diane experiences several bouts of verbal, physical and sexual abuse and now experiences intense PTSD symptoms when he comes to pick up the children. Currently Diane is taking Lithium for Bipolar Disorder (diagnosed at the age of thirteen during a two week stay in the state hospital). She also has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and currently takes Zyprexa to counteract hallucinations. Diane also suffers from PTSD and has learning disabilities as well as difficulty with her fine motor skills as a result of the intense abuse. Overall, Diane appears to be struggling with memories of past physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

These have taken the form of: PTSD (hypervigilance, headaches, dissociation, flashbacks, and dizziness) SRA symptoms (body pains in vaJenniferl area and lower back, confusion, hallucinations, emotional regression, recurring dreams with satanic symbols, and numbness in both her hands and arms), schizoaffective disorder (blunt affect, few close relationships) What are the spiritual implications for this client? Is the use of religion functional or dysfunctional? What spiritual interventions might be appropriate?
