Slate has a great impact on education at Sheridan College by allowing students to connect with each other, access course content and discussion forums, view assignment deadlines, and experience the online aspects of their education. Slate provides blended learning that research shows can increase learning outcomes while lowering attrition rates compared to fully online courses. The author relies heavily on slate for keeping up with assignments, accessing course materials, and taking an online cybernation course.

Introduction
Learning is determined by a number of factors, some of which are environmentally related while others are not. The approach of teaching is one of the major determinants of learning as far classroom learning is concerned. However, there has been a concern that the current approaches to learning are a little too abstract. Lack of real life scenarios and too much theory’ has been responsible for the growing apathy towards learning. I believe that student interaction helps students to learn and gain skills and knowledge that provides them with the foundation for.
This study will also increase the knowledge of teachers about particular types of child-teacher interactions that encourage the development of young students. I have chosen a research participant who currently teaches 7th grade at a local middle school in Cleveland Ohio. By choosing my research participant in a K-12 setting, I will attempt to show in my research study that conducting action research for student interaction; can be a rewarding experience for teachers and can lead to new ideas and strategies to promote student success. It is for this reason that I have chosen to conduct this type of action research plan to see if it can improve learning. I am suggesting that one of the ways is by increasing the awareness and importance of student interaction.
Context
The research participant I have chosen is at Euclid Central Middle in Ohio. I have decided to choose my participant because of my previous background where I worked for an after-school academic enrichment organization where we had an academic campus at the same middle school. After visiting classrooms during school hours, it became apparent to me that the classes that I visited all suffered from similar issues. After talking to Mrs. Copez-Minor, who was in her first year of teaching at the time; she stated that student interaction and involvement was one of the biggest issues many teachers at Euclid Central had encountered. Euclid Central Middle School is a part of the Euclid City School’s district, which is an inner-ring suburb of Cleveland Ohio. From information compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics; the school has a total of 579 students. Over 80 percent of the students at Euclid Central Middle School, are identified as African-American, making up the majority of the student body. The majority of the student body for the Euclid school district is made up of over 80 % African-American students, so Euclid Central, fundamentally has the same ethnic circulation contrasted with different schools in the city. (National Center for Education Statistics, 2013). The demographic breakdown of Euclid Central Middle School is radically unique in relation to that of a regular school in the condition of Ohio, which is comprised of 16.2% African-American students by and large.

One of the best parts about my job is that I get to travel all around the country and meet thousands of educators with equally as many opinions about a variety of topics. This has no doubt broadened my perspective as I have learned as much from them as I have been able to offer. Such was the case after visiting a school that needed support in the area of standards alignment.
Not long after I began laying out the steps on how to create an exceptional system for standards alignment, a young teacher sheepishly stood up with her hand raised. You could tell that she was trying to say something to help keep me from embarrassing myself. I’ve had this happen before, only to have someone tell me that my zipper was down or that they couldn’t hear me in the back of the room. This was different, though: “Mr. Lopez, I really appreciate you coming here, and I think I speak for the staff when I say that I don’t want to offend you, but you need to know that we’ve already done this.”
A little confused, I asked, “You’ve already done what?”
“We’ve already done planning around standards alignment. This really isn’t new to us.”
Wanting to dig a little deeper, I asked, “When exactly did you do this?”
She responded, “Oh, we did this like … six years ago.”
Trying to be as respectful of her as she was to me, I said, “Standards alignment is not something that you’ve done; it’s something that you do.”
When the standards movement began, many decades ago, there were many commitments that districts and schools made to jump on board. Unfortunately for some, those commitments were more about how to align standards through protocols and flow charts than they were about practical applications that teachers could put into use in their classrooms. In spite of the plethora of information and tools that we now have that can help us better align our standards, not much has changed for our most struggling schools. For those schools, it appears that educators are expected to know what the standards are, which essentially equates to them having the ability to look online on their state department of education website. Rather than beginning with the standards and shaping their lessons around them, teachers begin with what they want to do and then attempt to squeeze in a standard here or there in order to meet the expectations that their schools or districts have put on them. Trying to be as respectful of her as she was to me, I said, “Standards alignment is not something that you’ve done; it’s something that you do.”
When the standards movement began, many decades ago, there were many commitments that districts and schools made to jump on board. Unfortunately for some, those commitments were more about how to align standards through protocols and flow charts than they were about practical applications that teachers could put into use in their classrooms. In spite of the plethora of information and tools that we now have that can help us better align our standards, not much has changed for our most struggling schools. For those schools, it appears that educators are expected to know what the standards are, which essentially equates to them having the ability to look online on their state department of education website. Rather than beginning with the standards and shaping their lessons around them, teachers begin with what they want to do and then attempt to squeeze in a standard here or there in order to meet the expectations that their schools or districts have put on them. Without slate I would not have been able to keep up with all the assignment that were due. Slate has also made it easier for me to get the course content. If it were not for slate we would not have been able to take this online Cybernation course.
